A oneshot about Rose's death from Dimitri's PoV.
How did she end up here?
He looked down at the cold, white bed. Her dark hair was folded out on the pillow like a wave, and her dark-ish skin was paler than he had ever seen it.
After the school had been attacked by Strigoi, Rose had been almost killed trying to protect Lissa. The other girl had gotten out of there alive, thanks to Rose and Christian, and she was now in another hospital room, desperately trying to get to see Rose.
Dimitri had been sitting there ever since. How could he leave? He had been with the smaller kids to protect them, but they soon realized that the Strigoi only had aimed for the older students.
He had clicked. Rose. She had been up against three Strigoi at the same time, and that was an impossible mission, even for an adult Guardian. Even for the best guardian in the world, that would be impossible. When Dimitri entered the room, it was just in time to see a Strigoi thrust a sharp, pointy piece of wood through her stomach. Rose gasped, and coughed. She looked at Lissa, and Lissa screamed. "Rose!". Then the Strigoi had reached up, and broken her neck with a snap. Dimitri himself couldn't get a single sound over his lips. He just entered the fight like a tornado, leaving all the undead, completely dead. He took out two of the Strigoi, and Christian burned the last one. Meanwhile, Lissa had dropped to the floor, and tried to save Rose. She had managed to heal her neck, but it had made her too weak to heal the wound in her stomach. Tears had been streaming down her face, when she fainted by Rose's side, and Christian had rushed to her, with tears on his cheeks. He had had a sprouting friendship with Rose, and it must have been hard for him too, to see her on the brink of death. Dimitri fell down by her side, and scooped her up into his arms. She was light as a feather to him, and he felt the pain blossom in his chest.
"Roza… Roza, stay with me." He kept mumbling. He got her to the infirmary, and Dr. Olendskzy paled when she saw Rose. "get her in here" she had ordered Dimitri, and he had done as she had said.
The doctor had done everything she could to save Rose, but it was still not sure that she would survive. It had been 4 hours since he had brought her in, and he had held her hand ever since. The dark, gloomy guardian was gone, and the man who cared about a woman was now sitting there. All out of a sudden, the monitors started beeping wildly, and she opened her eyes vividly. She bended her body upwards, and the doctors tried to hold her down, and give her something, Dimitri couldn't what were, but she kept on cramping up. She was starting to shake violently, and he couldn't bear to look at it. But then she lied still. The heartrate monitor made a monotone sound, and Rose had stopped screaming. From far away down the hall, he heard a loud scream. Lissa. She must have felt their bond being broken, because he had just realized, that Rose was dead. "Rose? Rose." He shook her shoulders. The doctors and nurses had already left. That must mean she was dead. "I love you" he whispered.
Then he felt an anger, more powerful than ever. With a loud scream, he knocked over the machines that was plugged into Rose, who didn't need them anymore.
He would never give her training-lessons anymore. Never listen to her sarcastic comments. Never laugh at her. Never tell her that he loved her again. Never throw himself in front of her.
He had failed, and she had payed the price.
