Emu stood there on the roof of the hospital, sobbing. He had failed to save a life, again. Worse, that life he couldn't save was his own enemy's life. He was starting to feel worthless. If he couldn't save lives, what good was his own life?
He didn't even feel his own legs move him to stand by the ledge, he was so numb with depression. He was about ready to climb over when-
"STOP, EMU!"
A female voice brought him back to his senses. He looked around to see his best friend and fellow student, Aika Hikari, racing towards him and skidding to a stop. He turned to face her, but lost his footing and balance and he started to fall over the railing. "AAH!"
Aika quickly grabbed his coat and using her tremendous strength, threw him back up and away from the railing. He rolled across the ground and came to a stop a few feet away.
Aika ran over to him and landed on her knees. "Are you okay? You aren't hurt, are you?"
"No, I'm okay." He sat up and saw her face: Her eyes were full of concern for her best friend.
She swatted him across the face. "Baka! Do you even realize what you were doing?"
He blinked before remembering: He was about to take his own life. He got into a kneeling position and held her face in his hands. "Oh dear god, I'm so sorry. Aika, I-I didn't think- "
"Of course not!" She was starting to cry now, her eyes brimming with tears. "I saw you earlier when you said you needed to be alone. I knew that look because…because…" She couldn't finish the sentence at that point, because her tears were spilling over.
"Hey, it's okay." He pulled her close and gave her a hug, letting her tears fall onto his jacket. "It's alright. Shh, shh." He remembered what she had told him, about herself trying to commit suicide before recovering from her ordeal and becoming a student at Seito University Hospital.
She cried for a good long while and he consoled her before she finally picked up her head and gazed into his eyes. "I should have told you this a while ago…I love you."
He started tearing up again. "I love you, too. I wish things could be so much different than what they are now. So that we could be together."
She smiled at his confession. The two closed the gap between them, their eyes sliding shut and their lips meeting. He cupped her face and she slid a hand through his dark hair. They stayed that way for a long time before breaking the kiss. Their eyes opened and they gazed at each other lovingly.
She turned to look at the sunset first and smiled at the colors. "Look at that. Have you ever seen colors so pretty?"
He looked and saw the sunset. Smiling, he looked back at her to see her eyes diverted towards him. "Nothing is more beautiful than you right now."
Her smile grew wider at that. He pulled her close and they shared another kiss as the sun slunk into the shadows.

G.S.: Wow. My shortest fanfic and quite possibly my darkest. Now I know for sure: I have serious issues. I'm gonna get some ibuprofen. (salutes) See you guys around.
