Time setting: Post-Sakura Hiden
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto
A/N: First fanfiction I have ever written. This is just a drabble - we'll see how this goes. I'm just testing if anyone would react to my writing. Please don't kill me.
"I really need to be back at the office by sunset", Sakura muttered to herself as she launched herself from a tree.
Ino looked at her with a tinge of worry. After the whole deal with Kido, Sakura immediately arranged to return to Suna for a meeting with their medical leaders to continue talks of having a Children's Mental Wellbeing and Support Ward like the one that she and Sakura have set-up in Konoha.
"Sakura, I'm sure the guys can handle the reports for one night. We're medical-nin, I think we both know when we need rest." Even with the wind rustling in their ears, she's pretty sure Sakura heard her. She's ignoring her. You're pushing yourself too hard, she wanted to add.
After hours of traveling in silence, Sakura startled Ino when she suddenly spoke: "Fine, I don't think I can handle paperwork tonight anyway". Ino didn't let herself be fooled though, she knew Sakura too well she almost guessed what she was about to say next: "…But I'll have to train a new technique I learned from Suna."
Ino sighed in resignation.
Lately she's been living on four hours of sleep.
I'll have to get used to that, she said to herself as her feet met a tree trunk with a thud. Sakura recently decided to start training before dawn – a bit after 4 in the morning.
Since establishing the ward, her every waking hour was spent going over documents, reading dissertations and attending meetings so she had to give up a little sleep to keep herself in shape.
Her shishou has been reminding her to rest – no, not just Tsunade, everyone else was telling her the same thing but the words barely register.
I need to get better, sending a kunai flying, precisely hitting a target from her back.
When he comes back, he's not going to be the only one who's stronger.
