Love me tender,
love me sweet,
never let me go.
You have made my life complete,
and I love you so.
Shane hummed the words to his favorite lullaby. Their wedding song. He cradled the child in his arms. When she started to fuss Shane quickly hummed a little louder and a little clearer. She started to settle down.
"I know you miss her two baby girl." He said kissing his daughter's tiny head. He let a couple sad tears roll down his cheeks. His wife had died while giving birth.
They did everything they could. But she just wouldn't stay stable. Shane had accepted the fact he'd be a single parent before the night was through. Mitchie managed to see her though. That was all that mattered to him. Was she got to see her. He cried softly as he held his little girl. "I love you baby girl. Never forget that." He said quietly to her as he sat in to nursery as their friends and family crowed around the glass. They all were confused by Shane's tears he hadn't told anyone.
He smiled before placing her daughter down in her crib. He stroked her hair for a moment before walking out to tell them.
"Where's Mitchie? No one would tell us anything?" Her parents said looking concerned. "She…" Shane couldn't form a sentence. He gave them one of the genuine saddest looks he could muster. "Shane. Where is she." Connie said a little more frantically. The others stood silently. "I'm sorry." He said softly before sliding down the wall he was leaning on.
Her mother's cries were muffled but loud as her mother pressed herself into her father's shirt. His eyes were misty and the tears threaten to spill.
The others stood quietly Caitlyn and Nate stood together Caitlyn's head dropped and her shoulders were shaking. Nate's arm wrapped around her shoulder and pulled her next to him. He had a couple tears as well.
Jason shocked them all.
"Damn it Mitchie. Why… Why did you have to die?" He said angrily. "Everything was almost perfect again." He mumbled afterward.
Shane let out a breathless chuckle. "No it should be Damn it why am I the one still alive." Shane muttered.
The group gasped at what he said. They looked at him. Then back at Jason. Between the two they didn't know what to do or say.
"Shane… What's her name?" His father asked.
"Audrey Paige…" He said barely above a whisper. Everyone smiled slightly. At least Mitchie had gotten the name she wanted for her daughter.
Shane smiled a little as he thought he heard her giggle. "I love you." He murmured. No one caught what he said or what he had heard. But her giggle made him realize everything would be alright.
Warning. Those lyrics at the top are gonna be used in something else. Something possibly even more sad. But not for this one-shot.
