A.N- I freaking LOVE this song! Taylor Swift's song for the Hunger Game's album hit a note in my heart, and instantly made me think of Rue's death scene! I hope you enjoy this story and also, go check out the song! Btw this will have multiple settings, Post Mockingjay and during the 74th Hunger Games.
I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, I'll never let you go
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, Don't leave me here alone
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight
Katniss stared out at the arena, that stood empty. It had no setting, no oceans, islands, mountains or woods. Just blank arena. It amazed her that this simple area was where multiple lives were taken just for entertainment. One death particularly was fluttering in her mind. Rue's. That day she, Katniss, had decided she hated the Capital with all her life, for taking away Rue. The pain in Rue's face, the tears, her asking Katniss to not leave her. Asking her to sing. Those memories never left Katniss's mind. Not once since the 74th Hunger Games. Nor would they ever.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
Katniss sucked in chokes of air as she stood over the dead body of the tribute who took had attacked Rue. She shakily walked over to where Rue lay choking up blood and crying silent tears as the spear in her stomach sent shock waved of pain through her body. Katniss untangled Rue as if in a daze, she could hardly comprehend what she was doing, even when Rue asked for her to sing, the request sounded as if through cotton. And as so with the lyrics that sprung from Katniss's lips. Tears burned at her own eyes when Rue finally passed, and Katniss sat there for a few seconds just holding Rue's hand and crying over her dead companion. While picking the flowers, no thoughts ran through her head, exept those of Rue. The short time they had spent together as allies they had become close friends. And now she was gone.
Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Eve when the music's gone
Katniss wondered what would have happened if Rue hadn't died. Would she be in District 13? Would she even have survived the war? No, Katniss was glad Rue wasn't here to see the war, see the hatred. See the hate that even burned in Katniss's own eyes. Rue was at peace, or at least Katniss hoped she was. Katniss muttered the words of Rue's lullaby. ''Here it's safe, here it's warm.'' She tapped three fingers of her left hand on her lips as she silently thought. The image of her doing the same thing as a farewel to Rue flooded her mind. ''Here is the place where I love you.''
Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
A.N- this song is kinda sad. :( but I like it, Taylor and The Civil Wars do a good job with the song. I kinda think in the movie they might play this during Rue's death scene, or maybe even when Katniss is taking care of Peeta. Anyway, I hope you liked it! Review, please!
