One morning, in the early break of dawn, after harvesting a small block of ice, little Kristoff and his best pal Sven stop by the road to rest. Suddenly, two horses come galloping by, leaving a magical trail of ice in their wake. For a boy who has a huge fascination for ice, he couldn't resist following it.
The trail ends in this unusual place. He hides behind a rock, and from a distance, he sees a family, particularly a scared little girl in a simple blue dress, somehow waiting for something. He wants to get closer to see and hear even more, but he steps on a twig, alerting everyone of his presence. Afraid to get caught, he immediately runs away and never looks back.
Years later, Kristoff would still wonder about the things that he saw that day. He has no way of finding out more about what happened, so he would just push the thoughts of that incident away at the back of his mind.
One day, Kristoff climbs up the North Mountain and is amazed by the amount of ice and snow that cover it. As he walks, he is completely entranced by the marvelous sight around him. He continues on walking until his gaze lands on this impressive ice palace. It is nothing like he has ever seen before. He just has to explore it.
He climbs up the stairs, admiring the workmanship of its creator. He is utterly in awe of everything. When he reaches the top of the stairs, the door suddenly opens. He cautiously enters the ice palace, and his eyes roam its incredible interior. He looks up, and his gaze is filled by this enchanting young woman who is standing and smiling before him. He has never seen such astonishing beauty in his entire life. He stands there dumbfounded.
There is something so familiar about this woman. He feels like he has met her somewhere before, but he couldn't tell where exactly. He observes her intently from head to toe, and he notices that her entire gown is made up of ice. Ice? And that is when all the pieces come together—this woman is the one behind all of these spectacular ice creations, including the ice trail that he saw when he was a kid, which makes her the same girl who has captivated him all of his life.
