She was so tired but she kept running. Her military boots felt so heavy, weighed down by invisible lead. Colonel Carter sighed through her struggle, she just wanted to stop running away, to stop escaping, but she couldn't. Not yet anyway because it might catch them both. She and the man next to her, the man she loved.

They'd both been running for what felt like eternity.

"Carter," said General O'Neill, gently touching her shoulder, "are you still with me?"

"Yes sir," she assured him.

"Good," he said, flashing a smile at her. The smile that warmed her insides, a grin that made the lead in her military boots feel just that bit lighter. It was amazing what he could do with that one gesture. "You think we could fix my computer already?"

"Yep," she said and couldn't help but smile back. Inside she still felt the large burden carried in her heart. They'd been escaping their feelings for so long.
