I miss you
(one-shot)
disclaimer: I do not own the characters Jack, Sally or the Mayor. Nor do I own the song "I miss you".
A/N: well, i wanted to write a nightmare before christmas songfic and i tought, hey, what better song than the one that goes "We could live like Jack and Sally if we want"? -shrugs- you gotta love songs with TNBC references! You'll probably notice one or two of my Velvet Goldmine obsessions creeping in too... So one with the ficlet...
Hello there, the angel from my nightmares
People always looks so beautiful as they're walking out of the door, Jack thought as Sally shot him her her parting glance, filled with misery-singed fury. Her mere presence threw his life into a sharp ecstacy of fre and darkness. Now, she was gone. Watery sunlight drained through his window, its sickly colour soaking into his bones.
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley
He had never expected to fall in love. The King of Halloween was a ruler, the master of fright, not one of Cupid's pathetic moving targets. But what could he say, that annoying little cherub had caught up with him. He had found him his queen.
Don't waste your time on me
He hadn't intended to be there that night, but the Mayor had grabbed him and dragged him off to discuss the newest Halloween plans. The Tavern had been the closest place so in they had gone. The talk about the plans hadn't lasted too long. The Mayor was lonely, after all, no one wants to go for a few drinks with a paranoid beurocrat who hyperventilates every few seconds. Jack hadn't minded too much. They had spent the better part of the evening laughing at the rest of the Tavern's customers and getting steadily drunk, occasionally daring each other to go over and chat-up the more particularly hideous creatures. With all fairness to the Mayor, it was a rather easier challenge for Jack. Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was the dizzying effect of the spells the witches were practising in the corner. Jack didn't know. She had been pretty enough, for a banshee, but nothing special. And he had never even considered being unfaithful to his beloved Sally.
I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight
It had been an amazing night but she was nothing compare to his darling rag-doll. When morning had come, he had almost thrown himself into the lake, possessed by guilt and the horror of his own idiocy. In his turnoil, the fact that he was already dead had not occured to him.
Indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason
Lock, it was, who had given him away. He had been playing frog-eye marbles on the other side of the street when Jack had shut the Banshee's door and crept away into the misty morning.
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight?
Their relationship had lasted two more argument-filled days, brken up with frosty silecnes. Then, she had left. She had faded softly into the night and stolen his darkness away with her, leaving only shadowless solitude.
I miss you, I miss you
A/N: well, yep, that was it. Read and review if you please. I love reading 'em. cookies and shiny things to everyone who does so. ttfn peoples.
