This is from the view of a deer being hunted. Sort of. I wrote it in haiku because I thought I was being creative and it would challenge me a bit. And yes, it truly did challenge me. Anyway, R&R! I hope you enjoy all my hard work!

-Twilight—Twilight—Twilight—Twilight—Twilight-

I graze on the grass

Green and lush in this meadow.

In the warming sun.

-T-

Nearby is a stream

With cool refreshing water

Fresh for the whole herd.

-T-

Suddenly, one cries.

One of the deer is taken,

Only blood is left.

-T-

I know danger's near.

But I must try to escape.

Must run away fast.

-T-

I hear despaired cries

From behind me as I run.

The enemy comes.

-T-

I'm in the forest

Safer than in the meadow.

But still not quite safe.

-T-

I run through the trees

Blood pumping hard in my veins

Breath coming in gasps

-T-

I think I must pause

Before my breath is all gone

While I can still breathe.

-T-

I see a small brook

A ways in front of me.

I think I might stop.

-T-

I slow down a bit

As I approach the water

Trying to rest some.

-T-

I concentrate on

The smells and sounds of the woods

As I bend to drink.

-T-

I lap the water

And listen quite carefully

To the woods behind

-T-

I quickly stand up.

There was a noise from the trees.

There is something there.

-T-

I anxiously look

Around me in the half-light

For the nearby threat.

-T-

I couldn't see it.

All I saw was flashing teeth.

Long pointed canines.

-T-

I had heard of them.

The Cold Ones of ancient times

The ones that sucked blood.

-T-

Normally humans,

Those who could fight back better,

Were their prey of choice.

-T-

But there was a clan

Near our stretch of wooded land

Who did not want to.

-T-

Instead they came here

And they drank animal blood.

Feeding on my kin.

-T-

And now they found me.

Alone, away from the herd.

Dying here alone.

-T-

As the blood left me,

I could see his eyes changing.

From black to light brown.

-T-

My life has ended

Perhaps that means there will be

One less later on.
