With Razor Sharp Clarity
Manga/Anime: Naruto
Pairing: You can squint, I guess.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything other than the spark of insanity that made me write this and LIKE IT.
Author's Note: Okay, this isn't funny. =/ First thing I get done in MONTHS is... this thing that makes me wonder if, maybe, I'm really a masochist at heart. Also, I'm stuck on anything else I'd like to pretend I'm working on. *sad face*
Warnings: This is dark, I guess. Short, but dark and I'm not saying more than that. ;P
With Razor Sharp Clarity
The blade of Sasuke's katana must have been incredibly sharp, Naruto realized belatedly, gasping for air.
There had been no pressure, no resistance as its tip had dipped into Naruto's flesh, sliding into his ribcage like it had always belonged just there.
His eyesight couldn't be half as bad as Naruto had been told either, because the blade went in right between his rips and out just below his shoulder blade, never touching bone and cutting through muscles and heart tissue with equal ease. Even the mind-numbing pain that jerked through Naruto's body and flooded his mind was probably minimal compared to what he could have done.
There was an awful lot of blood, though, the blond noticed, and his vision was swimming. Almost like an afterthought to the shock and the disbelieve, he forced his head up to look the other in the eye, his heart – was that even possible now? – burning with something very close to agony when behind all that anger and madness, he could still see the boy that Sasuke had once been, the child that hadn't been allowed to grow up. He could see him and for one split second, he was looking back at Naruto in wordless horror.
Then, Sasuke blinked, and the boy inside him screamed and shattered into countless pieces.
Naruto felt his strength bleed out of him, his mind becoming foggy as his vision clouded. He vaguely wondered if the ground was really moving towards him or if his eyes were playing a trick on him, but he couldn't find it in himself to actually check, his eyelids slowly sliding shut, even against his will.
The moment Sasuke pulled his blade back out of Naruto's chest, Naruto realized with razor sharp clarity that even if there was something like an afterlife, he would not find salvation there. Not when he knew that everything he had loved about Sasuke had died with him.
