This is just a short little thing. I've missed writing for Ducktales! I'm so glad it's back!
I meant to add Louie in this, but he never came up.
Anyways yeah! This is based right after Beware the B.U.D.D.Y System episode. There are no spoilers! Enjoy :)
Dewey climbed the stairs slowly, gripping the banister with a death grip as his legs trembled with every step. Although he had suppressed the feeling hours earlier, there was still a sickly churn in his stomach from the day's events. He either wanted to puke or sleep. Maybe a little bit of both.
Huey was just leaving the bathroom when Dewey made it to the top of the stairs. The boy in red paused, smiling at his brother.
"Hey Dewey," he greeted. "Where have you been?"
Dewey stared at his brother for a moment. Huey stared back, smile falling and confusion taking over. Dewey trudged forward until he was a few feet away.
Then, he pulled his big brother into a hug. Dewey squeezed Huey as tight as he could manage without hurting the kid. For a moment, Huey didn't do anything; he was too surprised by the gesture. Dewey didn't usually hug, especially not at random. It worried the older brother a bit. Had something happened to bring on this surge of emotion? Was his brother alright?
Huey wrapped his arms around Dewey and trapped him in a firm embrace. "What happened, Dew?"
Instead of answering, Dewey tightened his grip. He buried his face in his brother's shoulder and savored the moment. A lot of things were happening in his life. He almost died multiple times that day (he loved Launchpad and all, but the guy was scary sometimes). The amount of drama and secrecy surrounding his mother was enough to make anyone a little crazy. Transitioning from a tiny houseboat to a giant mansion with his own room and spacing from his brothers a bit for the first time ever was more overwhelming than he had been expecting. Those things along with the adventures and thrills…
He just needed a hug.
Dewey pulled away after a few more moments. He smiled sheepishly. "Sorry."
"Don't apologize," Huey replied. "Are you okay? What's going on?"
His brother smiled. "I'm fine. Everything's fine. I just needed that."
Huey had a bad feeling in his stomach. He watched his brother suspiciously, knowing there was more to the story. Still, he let the topic drop (for now).
Dewey's face suddenly lit up. "You have to hear about what happened today!"
"Okay," Huey laughed. "I think Louie's still up. You can tell both of us."
Dewey grinned. He slung an arm over Huey's shoulders and walked the boy toward the youngest's room. Whatever was happening a few seconds earlier vanished. Dewey was back to his old self, cracking jokes and teasing his brother. It was like the moment never happened.
And if ever confronted about it, Dewey would claim that it never did. He didn't want people to think he just hugs his brother sometimes. That's lame.
"Hey. Thanks," Dewey mumbled as they stopped in front of Louie's door.
Huey smiled. "Anytime, bro."
