You are...

She was...

They were...

It was...

"You are beautiful, Rukia Kuchiki."

Ichigo's words. Those words that broke her heart.

They had been uttered by him just as Renji had opened the gate to Soul Society.

He spoke them with what remaining energy he possessed, with those cuts deep in his chest. Those cuts and stabs administered by her brother's zanpakuto, Senbonzakura.

She knew that he was always hiding something from her, but she never knew that he was admiring her.

She was broken by his words, she was harboring the same feelings for him as he was for her.

Her brother either callously ignored the statement, or he didn't hear it.

Renji was too oblivious of everything around him to even have an inkling of what had been spoken. A small amount of words had been exchanged, breaking two hearts.

Ichigo was lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood, hoping with all of his depleted life force that she would come back, instead of going to soul society with her brother and childhood friend.

They were never going to be together.

They would always love each other with all of their hearts.

She tried feebly to look away from the captivating amber gaze of the dying man on the ground. A seemingly small and easy to accomplish feat...

If you were not in love with the man who's eyes you were staring into.

She watched as the light in his eyes faded, holding back agonized screams as he fell unconscious, and it was all because of her.

It was one of the toughest things she had ever had to do.

Walk away from the unconscious body of her best friend, of the orange-haired idiot she loved.

Walk away from helping him, leave him with his remaining blood spilling from his body, forming a deep crimson pool on the ground.

The rain fell as she was pulled away, into Soul Society, away from her best friend.

She couldn't help but cry when she saw the doors close behind her, separating her from Ichigo for the last time.

"You are beautiful, Rukia Kuchiki."

They were the last words that left his bloodied and chapped lips.
