"Soon I'm going to be 7 and then I can know things." So much truth to those words, but Lucy did not know that until the Christmas Eve when she was told her that her uncle Scott was Santa Clause. Of course, something inside her knew all along, it was gift that children have, to believe in the impossible, a gift that sadly, many children lose.
It was a cold Christmas Eve night, the Millers were in the living room, watching yet another Christmas Special.
Laura and Neil were curl led up on the couch, sharing a bowl of popcorn whilst Charlie sat in his own chair, holding the snowgobe he had received from Bernard many years ago.
Lucy was sitting on the floor, holding a stuffed reindeer she named Comet, who, like her brother, she liked the best.
She smiled as the Santa on the show presented a gift to the Evil Burger Mister. He looked nothing like Scott, but his girlfriend, Jessica resembled Scott's new wife Carol. Lucy liked Carol, she was kind and loving and really smart.
The Santa aka Kris Kringle escaped the guards by jumping like deer and Lucy laughed, because that reminded her of Scott.
She loved her uncle and wouldn't trade him for anything. what was strange was that he had no relation to her. It took Lucy a while to figure out that Charlie and her mom had been married before she and her dad, Neil. They had divorced a few years before Scott became Santa. But Laura loved Scott, not as a husband, but like a brother and he and Neil had gotten closer as well.
But just because he wasn't related, didn't mean he wasn't still the best uncle. Not many kids could say their family member was Santa Clause.
And neither could Lucy. She had promised her brother that she would never tell anyone about that. It was exciting to know a secret as big as this, but also hard.
Suddenly they heard movement in the chimney and Lucy gasped as a bag dropped down.
Sure it was difficult, but it was moments like these that made it worth it.
