Prologue
"Stop being a little tattletale brat!" Tyler yelled at her on the playground. His voice was stern and scratchy for an six year old. Tyler was mean and he was stubborn.
"I-I." Katherine tried to murmur but she was terrified of what tyler might do if she said the wrong thing.
Katherine was weaker than everyone else and quieter. She was the new kid, fresh meat for hungry wolves like Tyler Lockwood to feast upon.
"That's what I thought." Tyler said as he cracked his knuckles. His hand balled into a fist as it rose higher to the the sky. I came crashing down towards Katherine before a voice called out.
"Mister Lockwood?" A calming voice called from behind, it was impatient. Tyler turned to face a boy who looked a couple years older than the rest of the bunch surrounding Katherine.
"Ah Mikaelson." He smiled. "How can I help you." He said cocking his head to the side.
"You can start by telling me why you were about to lay hands on this young lady over here." He said as he leaned against the tree where it marked the end in school grounds.
"She decided it was a good idea to tattle on us for no reason." He said looking back at his posey.
"Yeah she deserves it." One called our.
"Well gentlemen no harm is to come to her." The voice said very seriously and commanding. He walked over and helped the girl to her feet she started to dust off her new butterfly skirt her mother had bought for her a week before. It was covered in dirt, the white detailing destroyed with a thin layer of brown dust. Her sandals were dirty with streaks all over them. Her toes painted a perfect sparkly lavender. Katherine's hair bounced with volume from each and every chocolate brown curl. Her eyes stained with tears and cheeks flushed with pink. The boy grabbed her hand and they walked towards the swings.
She didn't quite understand why the boy had shown an act of kindness towards her. No one liked her. She was an outcast. Banned from the social scene.
"I'm Elijah. What shall your name be?" He asked as the walked to one of the swings and helped Katherine in it.
"Katerina Petrova, but you can just call me Kat or Katherine." Her response was short and quite. Rushed and bitter.
"I'll just call you Katerina." Elijah spoke with gentleness floating in his voice.
Her names sounded so right coming out of his mouth and off his tounge. Her stomach started to feel the same as her skirt... full of butterflies.
"Why did you help me with Tyler." Katherine finally spoke with an uneasy tone her Bulgarian accent peeked through her voice.
"Tyler is a troubled boy who toys with innocent people for no good reason other than boredom. Also he does the same to my little sister." Elijah said with disappointment seeping through his words.
A sister? Maybe she and Katherine would be friends. Katherine needed as many as she could get. She wasn't sure if she would start to converse because at the moment her anxiety had the better of her.
"W-Who is your sister." She spoke slightly. Katherine's eyes chocolate and glassy. Her fragile figure held onto those swing chains for dear life. Her head whipped towards him, mahogany curls twirling around her.
"Rebekah she's in Mrs. Saltzman's class." Elijah replied. "What class are you in?" Elijah asked politely.
"Ms. Fell's." Katherine spitted out almost immediately after he asked.
The lunch bell rung and Katherine got up from the swing and started to bust her skirt with her hands.
She looked back at Elijah.
"I'm sorry but I have to go." She quivered out. "W-Would you meet me here tomorrow?"
"Yes Katerina, I will." Elijah said with kindness and happiness in his voice.
Katherine started to walk away but turned around and told him goodbye.
