A/N: Had this idea ages ago and wrote it up on my phone. Really short one shot about a Katniss seeing the birth of a Mockingjay. Funnily enough, I got the idea after my little brother was doing some homework about the birth of an alien he made up :)
Summary: I perched on the edge of a branch with the bird still in my arms as the Careers noisily passed below. In awe, I gazed at the wondrous creature in my arms as I recalled what had happened.
I had just witnessed a Mockingjay's birth.
As I silently ventured through the vibrant forest, I came across a cream-coloured, oval-shaped egg, as small as my hand. I quietly walked closer, as two skinny, fragile legs popped out. Clumsily, it started to run, but then crashed into a tree. Slowly, a small head emerged from the egg, its eyes dazed. Soon, out came the wings, and the rest of the black and white body followed. As I carefully stepped towards this bird, I became aware of loud voices, and heavy footsteps. My heart pumping rapidly, I scooped up the bird, ran to the nearest tree, and scurried up it in earnest, as fast as my body would go. I perched on the edge of a branch with the bird still in my arms as the Careers noisily passed below. In awe, I gazed at the wondrous creature in my arms as I recalled what had happened.
I had just witnessed a Mockingjay's birth.
