AUTHORS NOTE: This started out as a one-shot idea, but with all the information I want to add, it would be way too long. I will TRY to get the next chapter out every week or two, but no promises can be made. Enjoy!
A stabbing pain shot through Bucky's left arm. An injection, slowly spreading throughout his body. A machine was rolled towards him; solid steel.
"Welcome Sergeant Barnes." Zola said, smiling.
"What do you want?" Bucky replied, sounding weaker then he intended.
"Your will to be silenced." He answered, flicking a few switches to turn the machine on. A sickening noise came from the machine, electric current blazing through it. As the prongs of the machine neared his head, Bucky squirmed to get out of its way. "Ah, ah, ah. Stay still." He ordered, stabbing Bucky with another syringe.
Weak sedative, to keep him still without rendering him unconsciousness.
The metal tongs neared closer and closer to Bucky's head. Various sparks of strong electric current blazed through them, ready to shock anyone.
Everything became silent.
Then, a single word was spoken in Russian,
"Longing." Zap. An agonized scream was heard. "Rusted." Zap. Another scream. "Seventeen." Zap. More screaming.
The words were being burned into Bucky's mind, and what better way to do that then fear?
"Daybreak." Zap. "Furnace." Zap. "Nine." Zap.
The conditioning was going perfectly. Once the words were repeated, he would remember the shock.
"Benign." Zap. "Homecoming." Zap. "One." Zap.
The words will have neural connection to shocking, causing the subject to fall victim to its control.
"Freight car." Zap.
Nothing could stop it now. The desperate pleas of the subject would be silenced. But just when it seemed as if the horrible conditioning was over, it started again. HYDRA had to make sure the words were firmly implanted in his head, branded like steel.
"Longing. Rusted. Seventeen. Daybreak. Furnace. Nine. Benign. Homecoming. One. Freight Car."
More screaming.
The memories in his head were slowly being washed away; broken by the conditioning. A few cuts could be seen where the metal had bore into his head.
A noise was heard. Explosion? Gunfire? Whatever it was, the scientist abandoned his experiment to save his life. Bucky stared at the ceiling, dazed. Footsteps started to be heard, but the stunned soldier wasn't sure if he was hallucinating. Just to be sure, he started to repeat his information from training.
"Sergeant James Barnes…3255708." A voice interrupted him.
"Bucky?!" The pain was beginning to become unbearable, and Bucky was starting to give in to the sweet sound of unconsciousness. But his restraints were being removed, ripped apart by…
"It's me. It's Steve."
"Steve." Bucky mumbled incoherently. He had never been more relieved to see his friend is all his life. "Th-the words…and the shocks…and-"
"Don't worry. You're safe now."
"No. I'll never be safe." He replied, shaking his head. "They're still in my head…" A wave of dizziness overtook him. "Steve…Steve…save me…" He begged, starting to collapse. "Steve!"
A prowling darkness overtook him.
