Gumball Romance
Chapter 1
Mordecai and Rigby were playing video games in the living room (They were supposed to be raking the leaves), until they heard Bensons closing in on them. They panicked; they didn't want Benson yelling at them. They tried to hide the controllers, but it was too late, Benson was already there.
"H-Hey Benson!" Mordecai stuttered, hiding the controller behind his back. Rigby did the same.
"Hey fellas!" Benson said, surprisingly upbeat.
"What the H…" Rigby said. Mordecai was thinking the same thing.
Mordecai turned around in the couch, "Uh, Benson?"
"Yes Mordecai?"
Again, he was taken aback by Benson's upbeat attitude right now. "…Nothing. So, where are you headed?" Benson was on his way out the front door.
"I'm going on a breakfast date with Audrey."
"I'm guessing last night's date went well?"
"Sure did! Anyway, Skips is in charge until I get back. I'll see you later."
"Cool, have fun Benson!"
"Thanks, oh and by the way, I have a present for you and Rigby." Benson got a card from the kitchen and gave it to Mordecai, then walked out the door.
Rigby leaned in to see the card and Mordecai opened it. They heard a voice that sounded like Benson's.
"GET BACK TO WORK!"
"You know Benson, I never got to see where you work," Audrey said while drinking her coffee. They were at the local café that had little seating, but had great breakfast meals. They always had that special home-style flavor.
"I'm manager of the park." Benson said, eating his pancakes.
"You work there? I go there sometimes for my morning jog."
"I must've been so busy, I never noticed."
"Would you have been checking me out if you did notice?" She flirted.
"Maybe…" Benson flirted back. Audrey gave him a cute smile. This was the first time Benson felt alright with flirting with someone, even though he and Audrey had already kissed.
"I've noticed something though: Why is it that sometimes the park looks like it's been through some kind of disaster? It gets closed a lot."
"So what do you think of the weather?" Benson said, trying to avoid the topic.
"Hiding something from me?" She gave him a questioning glare.
Benson gave in. "…Let's just say it's something that can't be explained in a short time."
"Guess we'll have to make another date for that."
"Guess so…" Audrey leaned in and kissed Benson.
"Hey Audrey?"
"Yeah?"
"That kiss we had last night…does that mean we're…you know?"
"I know what?"
"A couple?"
Audrey held Benson's hands. "I knew we were a couple the moment our date last night went well. We bonded to a point where I knew I couldn't find anyone better than you. So yes, we are a couple." Audrey kissed Benson again, but held on longer and caressed his head. She nearly 15 seconds later, leaving Benson in a daze. "Does that answer your question?"
"Y-y-yeah…"
"How did I get so lucky?" Benson thought to himself.
"Hey guys, I'm back," Benson said coming in to the house. He brought Audrey along so she could see his place of employment. She was very impressed by how the park and the house were so well kept. Mordecai and Rigby were playing video games while Pops and Skips were in the kitchen. He didn't want to introduce her to Muscleman. HFG, maybe, but not Muscleman.
"Hey Rigby, hey Mordecai," Audrey said while walking to the kitchen with Benson. She remembered those two perfectly. She would have to plan to hang out with those guys sometime. They seemed like cool people.
"Well look whose back," Skips said, pulling his eyes away from the newspaper. Pops was reading the comics that Skips tore out for him.
"Skips, this Audrey," Benson said.
Skips stood up and shook Audrey's hand. He realized he may have squeezed her hand a bit too hard after seeing her wince in pain a bit.
"Sorry Audrey."
"It's fine; a guy your size probably couldn't help it anyway," she joked. This made Skips smile: it was the truth, he couldn't help it.
"And this is Pops."
Pops took of his hat, held it against his chest and held Audrey's hand, "Nice to meet you madam. You and Benson make a swell couple. He really likes you," he said happily.
"Yeah, thanks Pops," Benson said, kind of embarrassed. "So Skips, how did Mordecai and Rigby do today."
"Pretty good actually; they worked faster under my orders. Don't know why but go figure."
"Interesting, anyway good job Skips. I'm going to show Audrey the rest of the house." And with that Benson left to kitchen. Skips put the newspaper down and went to check on Mordecai and Rigby.
"Hey fellas."
"Hey Skips," they said together.
"So uh…what do you think of Benson's girlfriend?"
"She's cool. We met her before. Benson seems a lot calmer when around her," Mordecai said.
"Yeah but it makes me wonder…" Skips sat down.
"About what?" Rigby asked.
"Being in a relationship is a responsibility and so it taking care of the park. Just makes me think which one whose going to give the most attention. Benson takes care of this place with a firm hand, seeing how he doesn't really have any other options for employment right now."
Mordecai and Rigby nodded in agreement.
"Let's just hope he doesn't let the stress of the two get to him. Because we all know how he is under stress."
Mordecai and Rigby couldn't agree more with that statement.
I said I would continue the one-shot, and I did. I already a good idea of what the story will be like, but if you have any suggestions or things you want to see in this story, PM or leave it in your reviews and I'll get back to you and see what we can do. I cannot promise that all requests will be taken, but they are welcome.
…
On a serious note, I want to express my condolences to the people affected by the shooting that recently took place in Colorado, as I had heard about it during the writing of this chapter. I pray that the families and the injured make a full recovery, both emotionally and physically, and that the deceased rest in peace, and that the man responsible faces a harsh punishment for what he did.
