Months had passed since Hiccup's accident. During that time he had learned how to walk with his artificial limb, partially thanks to his own addendums to the metal piece. Only occasionally did he still need help catching his balance.

He refused to let that stop him from living the life he'd grown accustomed to. Every evening he and Toothless went out for a moonlit fly over the forest. The breeze would ruffle through Hiccup's hair; it had quickly become one of the many things he loved about riding. Being up in the air, looking down on their village and the area that surrounded it, was the most liberating sensation he'd ever felt. Human and Night Fury, as one being for those few short hours.

If there was a heaven on Earth, Hiccup was sure it was in the sky.

One cloudy night they had gone out to enjoy the cool, misty air. The clouds above were gray and heavy with rain, effectively covering the moon to make it harder for humans to see.

Toothless seemed especially contented. When Hiccup couldn't see very well, the dragon ended up steering them along their way.

No sooner did they reach the glade then Toothless faltered momentarily. Hiccup looked back at the make-shift wing and frowned; the mostly-flawless design was still having moments of weakness. Rather than risk painfully crashing and enduring further injury to either of them, Hiccup signaled the black dragon to land.

Toothless seemed to recognize the area immediately and was all-too happy to rest in the familiar area while his rider worked.

Hiccup dismounted, holding fast to the riding equipment so as not to topple over before he could gain his balance. Toothless bumped against his side with his nose, careful to not push too hard.

"Sorry, buddy. You know I didn't bring fish with me." Hiccup patted his head before hobbling back to the scaly tail.

Toothless curled up with a huff, turning so he could watch the boy. It was fascinating for him; humans were always full of surprises.

Hiccup settled himself on the ground, inspecting the equipment.

The clouds rumbled quietly in the distance. The temperature had suddenly dropped a few degrees. Toothless shook his head as a few droplets of water suddenly hit him.

"Great. Maybe we should go-" Hiccup began just before the clouds opened up, creating a heavy downpour, "-home."

Toothless nudged Hiccup closer to his body with his tail, causing the youth to yelp softly in surprise.

"Hey, take it easy." The brunet could no longer feel any rain falling down on him. He looked up, seeing a large black wing shielding him, and Toothless' head, from the rain. Soft bright eyes looked over at his pet, his friend.

"Thanks, buddy." Hiccup pet the dragon's great head, leaning back against the scaled body for warmth. Before he knew it, he drifted off into a light sleep.

Toothless huffed softly, as if amused. He curled up tighter, hugging Hiccup with his tail. He would be nice for the moment and let the teen sleep, knowing that when the rain stopped he could have fun waking him up.
