I walked down the street in New York, taking in everything that was once all too familiar to me. As I was walking in Central Park I heard a voice that I knew. "Baby born with no mudda, believed to be miracle from god!" The boy yelled. "Thanks sir." He said as a gentleman gave him money for the paper. I walked up to him. "Got a good headline today?" I asked. He spun around to look at me, and his jaw dropped. "Emma, you're back." He said. "Yea, I am. You aren't gonna tell Jack, are ya?" I asked. He looked like he was seriously contemplating his answer. "Not if you do." He said. "It's just, he probably still hates me." I said. "He's still madly in love with you." Race said. "So, where do you think he is now?" I asked. "Don't know, I just sold my last pape so I'm on my way back to the lodge if you wanna come along and see the others while you wait." He said. "That would be great." I said.

We walked together talking about what's new and what I missed while I was in Santa Fe. Santa Fe is the whole reason I'm petrified to see Jack. He has always wanted to go there, and I got the chance, and he told me to go, and I was stupid and went.

We arrived at the lodge and I was the boys hanging around playing marbles and cards. I noticed Mush first. "Mush, how've you been?" I asked. "Emma, is that you?" He asked. I nodded. He hugged me. "Welcome back, Jack's inside, do you want me to get him?" He asked. I shook my head nervously. "Not yet, I've gotta work up the nerve." I said. He nodded. Then Crutchy hobbled over. "How ya been Emma?" He asked. "Good, how bout you Crutchy, you're lookin' mighty good." I said. He blushed and smiled. "Hey, should we tell Jack?" He asked. I shook my head. "Give me time." I said.

I said hi to a bunch of people before I noticed someone in the doorway of the lodge. It was Jack, he was leaning up against it smoking. I pulled my hair behind my ear, and smiled at him. "Hey ya Cowboy." I said. "Hey there Emma." He said. For a long time we just stared at each other. "You're lookin' good." I yourself said. "You're lookin' good, pretty hoity toity like." He said. I looked down at my clothes. They were an improvement from what I used to wear, but they still weren't anything to brag about. "Emma, is that you?" Someone asked. I turned around, and saw Davie and Les. I smiled and nodded as Les came and hugged me. "Wow! You've gotten big, little man." I said. He smiled and stood up tall. Davie walked over. "Hey there Emma." He said. I hugged him. "Hey, how's Uncle Mayer doing?" I asked. "His arm heeled and they hired him back." Davie said. "That's great." I said. Jack walked up and put his arm on my shoulder. "Can we take a walk?" He asked. "Sure." I said. I saw good-bye to everyone and promised to be at Davie's later tonight.

Jack and I walked in silence for a minute or two. "You're back." He said. "Yeah, I guess I missed New York too much." I said. "I didn't think you'd actually leave." He said. "I thought you meant for me to go. I guess I was stupid." I said. "No, you were thinking about your life, and what you needed, you were smart." He said. "I missed you." I said. "I missed you too." He said. I pulled out a box, and handed it to him. "I got you this." I said. He opened it, and saw a pocket watch that was pretty expensive. "Where did you get the money to pay for this?" He asked. "It was rest of my money. It has pictures of things from Santa Fe on it." I said. He looked at it, and hooked it on. "I love it." He said. "Well, what time is it?" I asked. He smiled
