A/N: just a really short silly thing I came up with.

Kindred Spirits
In a small pie shop known to most, nay, all, as the Pie Hole, in his usual booth by the door, sat a private investigator named Emerson Cod. He was waiting for the business that day to die down enough for the Pie Maker, his business associate, to be able to join him for their usual daily discussion. Unusually, Emerson Cod did not have a case to bring to the Pie Maker's attention; he had simply grown so used to his visits to the Pie Hole and his conversations with the Pie Maker, the waitress Olive Snook, and a girl named Chuck that he could not see a day going by where he did not pay the shop a visit.
So he sat and watched as Olive preached that day's "chosen pie" to the customers, and he watched as the Pie Maker Ned and the girl named Chuck expertly avoided making contact while they made their pies and intermingled with their customers. And Emerson Cod made note of the fact that their interaction, though hindered by their inability to touch, was still as sickeningly sweet as one of the Pie Maker's sweetest pies.
And the private investigator found that, though he had been annoyed by this sweetness since it had begun when the Pie Maker had brought the girl named Chuck to life with a slight touch, he had long been avoiding the reason. As that elusive reason finally inched its way into his mind, Emerson Cod glanced at Olive, choosing her as his kindred spirit in this matter.
For, he now realized, he had not been displeased with the relationship simply because of how close Chuck's survival had brought him to his demise, but also because there was the slightest twinge of jealousy of the girl eating away at Emerson Cod's heart.
As his eyes lingered on Olive Snook's profile, she turned towards him and their eyes caught. And Emerson Cod saw that Olive Snook saw that they were in the same boat. And as she walked purposefully towards him, empty pie plate in hand, he wished she would get out of his boat…and quickly!
