The Bookshop
A/N: Hi there!
C.S. Lewis planned to write a book titled Susan of Narnia, which would have dealed with Susan's situation after her relatives' deaths. However, C.S. Lewis passed away before he could start writing the book, therefore condemning this blessed fandom to never knowing what happened to the Gentle Queen. You know, once a Queen or King of Narnia, always a Queen or King. So, here's my take on what could have happened. It's a one-shot I have been imagining for a long while.
Read and REVIEW, please! Thanks! :)
The Winter had been exceptionally harsh, even for a Londoner's standards. Luckily, it was finally coming to an end. Unluckily, it was saying goodbye via very, very cold and snowy days.
She should have arrived home an hour ago but, really, she needed to walk and think because the day had been long and exhausting.
The only problem was that it was snowing heavily and she had forgotten her umbrella.
She looked for shelter, but only found houses and houses and perfect. There was a nice-looking bookstore at the end of the street. "Dawn Treader's Bookshop and Café". She walked inside; it was small and cozy, with a few couches and low tables scattered around.
The librarian -a middle-aged lady with beautiful blue eyes and long black hair- approached her.
"Good afternoon, welcome to this bookstore. How can I help you?"
The lady seemed a little… grave, but her smile was very kind.
"I'm looking for a nice book".
"Have you thought about any one in specific?"
"Not really".
The lady led her through the bookshelves. She then grabbed a book that seemed very old. She looked mischievous and wistful and her smile became a little melancholic.
"I was gifted this book a long time ago. I have the feeling that you'll like it".
"The Chronicles of Narnia. Sounds good. But how much is it, ma'am?" The book was thick, and it seemed to be a hard cover, illustrated version.
The librarian tilted her head slightly and waved a hand. "Nothing".
Rather automatically her eyebrows rose, "But-
"Let's consider it a promotional gift, shall we? Please do keep it. It's a deliciously good book".
Her tone was calm but it left no room for discussion.
"Now, darling, make yourself comfortable. If you need anything, I'll be behind the counter".
"Wait! I just wanted to say thank you. You are really very gentle".
The librarian blinked twice. Then she smiled softly and winked, "So I have been told".
