I hugged my Nymphadora close to me. "Be careful, kiddo." I said, brushing her blonde hair back from her face. She shook her hair back to place, and grinned.
"As always," She said, tripping over her feet. "Besides for then, I wasn't careful then." She laughed.
Watching her laughing at herself, and hugging a boy she had met the previous year, I felt my world tip. She was growing up way too fast. I held my wife close to me.
"Bye, Dora!" She called to her daughter. She looked back and flashed her a glare.
"It's not Dora, Mother." She turned her blonde hair pink and I watched her take the boy's hand. I felt my chest getting heavy.
I ran up and took her shoulders. "Write me, okay, kid?" I kissed her cheek, and she wrapped her arms around me.
"I love you, Daddy." She whispered in my ear.
"I love you, too." She kissed me once more and ran through the barrier that would separate us for another few months. I watched as the last of her trunk disappeared.
"Come on, Ted." My wife urged me. I couldn't move.
Dora was back to school, and away from me.
