I absolutely love this song and though it was very fitting for a post Hogwarts battle song fic. This is my first one so I hope you like it.
I remember tears streaming down your face when I said, "I'll never let you go"
Draco looked at the tear streaked face of Gabrielle. He was holding her broken body in his arms; she had not fared well during the battle. She had been hit with numerous curses and had been under the Cruciatus for an extended amount of time by the time Draco had finally found her among the chaos.
Only the day before had Draco promised that no matter the outcome of the war he would never let her go. He loved her too much to ever walk away from her, she had become his whole life. She was the only thing that mattered to him.
When all those shadows almost killed your light I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone". But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight.
Gabrielle had been Draco's guiding light out of the darkness and away from the path his parents had made for him. Now with the war over and Voldemort gone he couldn't wait to start a life with her. He had asked so much of her during the war and she had given all he had asked. She never once left him alone in the darkness he had been forced into.
Just close your eyes, the sun is going down. You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now. Come morning light you and I'll be safe and sound.
The sun was finally setting on the scene of the fighting. Draco had been able to find Gabrielle and get her to the hospital wing where Madame Pomfrey had begun tending to her. Draco didn't know why but the battle was staying away from the hospital wing. Yet he was thankful because that meant Gabrielle could be healed.
Once Madame Pomfrey gave her some potions Draco coaxed her asleep assuring her everything would be over when she woke up. He had no clue if the war would be over but anything to get her to rest. Don't you dare look out your window darling everything's on fire. The war outside our door keeps raging on hold onto this lullaby even when the music's gone. Gone.
Draco didn't dare let Gabrielle turn and look at the window and watch the war rage below them. Instead he hummed her a soft lullaby to put her to sleep as he watched the war. He hoped that by the time the sun rose that the war would be over. Just close your eyes the sun is going down. You'll be alright no one can hurt you now. Come morning light you and I'll be safe and sound.
When the sun finally came up Gabrielle was awake and on the mend and the war was over. Draco helped her make her way down to where everyone else was. Throughout the night casualties had been brought to the hospital wing, filling it. All that mattered to Draco though is that they made it through the war and she was alive. He had the girl he loved and the chance to start new.
