A New Hero
A/N: My sister is, for some odd reason, a huge Oliver fan, and she requested that I write a fanfic about him. So here is my attempt, which I will most likely fail terribly at.
--
All he wanted was to be a hero. To help someone. To not be looked down upon by other nobles. That's why he did it. That's why he tried to possess a heron. That was the only reason--he wanted to have something they didn't, something he could throw in their faces for once.
However, attempt after attempt failed. He never found any. That is, until he saw Reyson while visiting King Naesala. Reyson was not just a heron; he was a member of the royal family of Serenes. He couldn't believe his eyes. Everyone had thought the herons had all perished twenty years before, in the Serenes Massacre--a thing he did not approve of. He definitely wished that hadn't happened. The thing that had wiped out nearly every single heron in existence had been caused by the senate, of which he was a part of.
They had falsely accused the herons of murdering the Apostle Misaha, when they themselves were the murderers. Due to that, the people burnt down Serenes Forest. All herons were thought to be wiped out. This was an act that the new apostle, Empress Sanaki, was deeply ashamed of. Though Sanaki was only thirteen, she probably had more sense than all the Senate put together.
But Reyson was not the only heron left, Oliver soon learned. There was also his father, King Lorazieh, older brother, Prince Rafiel, and younger sister, Princess Leanne. Reyson and Lorazieh had lived with King Tibarn in Phoenicis, while the latter had been bedridden for nearly twenty years--ever since the massacre. Prince Rafiel had lived on the other side of the Desert of Death, with Queen Nailah of Hatari. And Princess Leanne, whom could not fluently speak the modern tongue, had slept in the forest for twenty years. Just recently they had all been reunited.
So there he sat, in his study, when suddenly he heard a cry from outside.
"HELP!"
Exactly whose voice this was, Oliver was unsure of. When he walked outside however, the site that met his eyes was shocking. Nailah, Soren, and Volke were standing around one of the outermost trees of Serenes Forest. Nailah looked furious. He soon found out why. When he looked up at the tree, he saw Rafiel sitting in it.
"Help! I can't fly! I can't get down!" came the heron's voice.
Nailah turned to Soren and Volke.
"Who put Rafiel up in that tree?!"
"Lady Nailah, please calm down, he's…."
Volke was cut off.
"You two think this is funny, don't you?! You placed him up there to laugh at the 'sub-human', didn't you?!"
"Nailah, please. That's not it at all."
"Nailah! It's fine! I'm alright! Soren and Volke didn't do this!"
"Then what happened?"
"I'll tell you later. Now I need help down!"
Nailah transformed into wolf form and began to climb the tree to rescue Rafiel. However, Oliver came out of practically nowhere and shoved her out of the way. Taking a Rescue staff, he was able to get Rafiel down safely.
"Thank you, kind sir!"
"You're welcome, Prince Rafiel! It was no trouble at all!"
"Nice job, Oliver!"
"You're a hero!"
A hero, he liked that. He walked back to his palace, content with his day's work.
"Hey, Volke, Soren. Where's my money?"
"Right here."
"So this was what it was all about? Rafiel, they paid you to sit in that tree?"
"Yes."
"Why?!"
"Couldn't you tell?"
"Oh, I think I get it! You were all trying to make Oliver feel special!"
"Yes, that's it."
"Next time, let me know first. You had me worried to death!"
They all laughed.
"Of course, my lady Nailah."

A/N: Well, there it is. How sweet of them to try to make Oliver feel special. It's short, I know. I didn't know what else to put though, since I don't use Oliver much.
Heather, I hope you're happy. :P
