| Memory of a Rival |
Against a living rival, one can win;
Against a human, I am evenly matched;
For all possess their goodness and their sin;
Human foibles make men less attached.
Yet with a memory, who dares compete?
Enshrined inside his heart she does now dwell;
I thought I'd have a chance to be complete;
Somehow, the odds have slimmed, I now can tell.
And yet, that banshee's not his gentle love;
It looks like her, yet her I know it's not;
Perhaps he likes to think the hawk a dove;
Perhaps he blinds himself to her harsh lot.
What can illusion give besides escape?
With me, a fine reality we'll create.
