"What exactly is a Kelpie?

Many witches and warlocks have caught the word Kelpie off a random person's tongue and pondered it's meaning. And so if you are currently reading this paragraph you must have heard such a word and had that spark of curiosity. If not then this is just a coincidence and I suggest you do not read on.

Today, we view Kelpies as extinct creatures, often the antagonist of Welsh children's bedtime stories. That is, those who do not confuse this name with that monster which lurks in Loch Ness. Unfortunately, Kelpie is not the correct name for the sea creature mostly taking the form of a horse but occasionally showing the true form: a serpent-like water dweller.

Albeit this is a common mistake, mostly amongst muggles as wizards only take into consideration magical creatures worthy of the title 'Dangerous'. It is humorous that they should think Kelpies like any other magical creature, as our not-so-friendly sea creatures were quite possibly the most powerful beings on history. They did take, like vampires, fairies and few others, a human form.

Absolutely strikingly beautiful, Kelpies found it extremely easy to lure their prey, which usually consisted of small animals and young men. Many a legend portrays these creatures as beautiful sea-women, endearing alas dark and often truly bitter leading men to their rivers and leaving themselves embedded in the man's every thought.

These poor souls found the image of the beautiful women driving themselves insane so they had to return the river. The second visit the Kelpie would anger the man to amuse themselves, normally dancing over with another man and pretending like being with him was so beneath them.

Then the man, torn between love and hate would leave and return for a third time. At the third visit the man would look for the Kelpie helplessly until he was pulled into the water by a long, slender arm. After that the Kelpie would eat his heart out. Of course, this is a silly myth. Kelpies did have the power to allure and deceive much like a succubus/incubus but they did not eat human hearts, just toyed with them for amusement oh, once in a while.

They were very beautiful and usually female. Kelpies were very rare because of their power. Skilled with art of controlling elements, free will, time and energy, they were the allies you wanted back when they were still in existence. In fact, it was said that they were so powerful one could take out an entire army of humans.

From the first birth of a Kelpie they possessed kingdoms, living in strict monarchy. It is said that any magical creature (not muggles or wizards) would fall to their feet at the presence of one. So, excluding the many powers they could bend creatures to their will. But, around 1789 Kelpies began to branch off and rebel. Some say it was because of the unfair ruling of Queen Catalina Draguta Aefre Bernia at that time, others say that the rebel-Kelpies were just vacuous and looking for something to fight over, that the Queen was an extremely gentle and just ruler.

Possibly because this was the only creature that could match their skills. We do not really know. But it was this that drove the Kelpies to extinction. They battled one another with such strength on both sides that they completely wiped one another out. Ironic some think that the most powerful creatures in the world were destroyed by themselves."

Draco Malfoy, at a young age had been obsessed with tales of the Kelpie. But that is nothing unusual many people were enthralled by the mere thought of such a creature. After all, here were almost all-powerful beings filled with a history of violence, fear, glory and lust. Centaurs, creatures known for their hatred of any race other than their own, had bowed at and kissed their feet.

But that isn't quite the reason he had become obsessed with them. It was basically because when his mother told folktales of Kelpies as bedtime stories she was the most enthusiastic he ever saw. Her face lit up with excitement, fingers clutching to Draco's blankets and mouth curving up into almost-smiles. And he wished he could see his father look like that at the mention of a subject or the telling of a story but he never did. Narcissa was much more gentle when Draco was a child, always yelling when Lucius would knock him to the ground so "he would grow up to his wishes".

Even as he grew older and older and could finally go to school and be someone he would cry out at the sight of a book on Kelpies, false or no. Crabbe and Goyle would hardly complain when the blond would wave a hand at them and tell them to bugger off and find some food, his nose buried in a book full of legends. But he had never thought of the Kelpie as something he would dedicate a lot of time to. Reading the few books in the library was a once in a while thing because he didn't have the time and he wanted to savor the few books on them Hogwarts did possess.

When his father would snarl at him and tell him of the power of the Dark Lord and how Draco would pay if he didn't join, he often thought of the Kelpie bedtime stories. Because they were a nice way to get his mind off of decisions and ideas for his future. He had never been a weak boy really, just smaller than everyone else in his grade and much better at acting. And it was doleful how he had believed his father those first years before he actually experienced what it meant to be a Death Eater.

Lucius had told him pretty tales of Lord Voldemort and how intelligent and superior he was. When he had finally met the Dark Lord and seen the horrors he committed, Draco wanted to change his mind and his parents and a lot of things. Not to say that he couldn't but their was a 90 percent chance he would die three days after making this decision and voicing it aloud. Because he lived in the house of a respected Death Eater and ate the food of one of the Dark Lord's slaves. Of course the change in his thinking of everything to do with Voldemort didn't change his views of muggles or Golden Boy Potter much.

During 6th year, Draco didn't have much time for Kelpies. In fact he had nearly forgotten about them until a few days before the end of school.

It was a coincidence that one day he overheard Potter, Granger and Weasley chatting about Giants and centaurs and the like and how powerful they were. Weasley joked that maybe a giant they knew somehow, he thought the name sounded like "Grow P" of something, could probably kill Voldemort.

The blond had shaken his head at Weasley's try for a joke as he stalked down the hallway and past the trio standing and whispering. He had almost snorted aloud after hearing such a thing but kept his mouth shut, as he didn't want to cause anything big. Not really after his change in mind. But it suddenly dawned on him like it had been waiting there in the back of his mind for years. What if…what if Kelpies hadn't gone out of existence? What if they were still alive and breathing and still so full of power?

What if he could become friend with one and convince him/her…

Convince him or her…

Convince them to kill the Dark Lord?

There was an air to Cordelia's persona that was beautiful albeit almost creepy at the very same time. Her lips were constantly curled in a demented sort of smile, clashing with her far away, glazed eyes.

The green depths filled with enigmatic flickers when she spoke. And no one guessed they were filled with ghosts and corpses because Cordelia was Cordelia and therefore everything mischievous, powerful and perfectly all right.

Even better than all right considering she was the current Reina of Wallachia and all creatures. Not one minded a goddess to rule them. Cordy could care less of what sort of blood people were made up of or dark to light. She was in fact hardly a ruler at all.

Frankly this was because she knew they didn't want nor need a ruler. Take Merpeople, Werewolves, Basilisks, Elves and so forth. The only ways in which she helped was if called upon by a creature, almost like a fairy god mother to grant a wish.

And it was always because something was about to kill them or the like, maybe to get out of a war. It surprised her that none of them asked her to kill this "Lord Voldemort" character she'd been hearing so much about from the snakes.

Then again, none of her people were Wizzies. The Wizzies were the ones so longing for him to die or so she had heard. They were frightened out of their knickers at the mere thought of the well, other "dark" Wizzie.

He was nothing to be frightened of with power of 25 on a scale of 100. Well, she supposed he was to them. Because they were all around stupid and worthless. What with pulling their power out of a stick.

Oh, her mother had told her enough about them for her to know they were not to be cared for. None so intelligent so far as to come to the conclusion that a bloody Kelpie could kill this "Lord Voldemort", of course! Just a bloody Kelpie!

Wizzies did think Kelpies were water horses, though, didn't they? And they passed that legend down to the blasted mortals. Oh no. She couldn't call them mortal so much as completely magic-less folk. Because Wizzies were very much mortal as well.

Magic-less people could indeed beat down many a Wizzie had the blasted race not come up with a "wand". That's what they called their vacuous magic-holders.

And they called it magic running through their veins. Yeah sure they had a bit but not enough to knock out a hippogriff without the wands. Not at all.

Anyway let's return to the subject of Cordelia's demeanor. It takes a large part in our little story that it does. For she, the troublemaking Childe of power, was seekan out by a Wizard purely for this demeanor. And for the first time in her entire life, Cordy genuinely liked a Wizzie. Befriended a Wizzie.

Allied a Wizzie.

Can you guess just whom I am speaking of?
