Not My World
Chapter One
Time for Goodbye
You're all so happy. So cheerful. You're always smiling, all of you.
Every time I look at you, you have a smile dancing on your face, a song in your heart. You always have a bounce in your step.
You're in love. You're at the best point in your lives, the turning point.
That's what made me think harder about this than I ever have in my entire life. It's what made me make this decision.
Don't even pretend you don't know what I'm talking about. You do. You've been there. You've lived it. And it's my fault.
You could be out there living. I mean, really living. You could be out there with jobs, facing the world like the others. The ones who don't know. They don't know what's really out there. That's the life I want to give you. I want you to live your lives like them, your biggest worry being whether or not your son made the A-team at soccer tryouts.
You should have kids by now. You should be married and happily ushering your kids to stand in the right spot so that poor photographer can take a good family portrait.
You see, you are at the most important phase in your life, and I'm holding you back. I've been keeping you from living your lives the way you want to, the way you need to. I can't keep doing that. I can't keep you away from this any longer.
I have to let you go.
It was a hard decision to make, but you can't change my mind. I will leave and I won't be coming back.
You'll understand someday. This is for the best. For you.
I love you all, and I will miss you always, every day, but I won't come back. I can't come back.
Just by knowing you and being your friend has put each and every one of you in danger for seven years.
Seven years.
Now it's time to say goodbye.
