Natalie sits there watching Henry finish painting the walls in the nursery. The paint is a bright blue. Natalie would have preferred a neutral brown or beige, but Henry insisted on the blue. She didn't mind that much, she guessed.

As Henry paints with enthusiasm, she rocks back and forth in the antique rocking chair, rubbing her over-sized belly. Natalie simply can't believe that after only year of marriage, she and Henry were going to be parents. She also couldn't believe she was going to have a son.

As excited as she was, Natalie couldn't help but be a little nervous. She wasn't sure what kind of parent she'd make. Mostly because of her own upbringing. The minute they found out it was a boy, Natalie thought of her own mother. And her dead brother, Gabe. She obviously wasn't worrying about loosing the child, not really. She was just afraid that maybe, just maybe, having a kid would make her nuts. Like her mother.

Natalie gripped the arms of the chair. There is no way I'm going to be like her, she thought. Absolutely no way.

"Nat, are you okay?" Henry asked, seeing her tight grip.

Natalie smiled and loosened up. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said with a smile.

"How's the baby?"

"Surprisingly calm today," she told him, thinking about how just yesterday the little boy couldn't stop kicking.

"That's good, right?" Henry asked. "That means he'll be mellow."

"Hopefully. Wouldn't want him all ADD like his Daddy," Natalie teased, pulling Henry in for a kiss. She really loved Henry and was happy to have him. She could remember being so nervous and doubtful right after she'd accepted the proposal. But once she walked down the aisle, and now with the baby, all of her doubts were gone.

"Well, the paint's done for the day," Henry announced, helping Natalie out of the chair.

"I still can't believe that the baby's due in two weeks and we haven't even finished the nursery," Natalie said, looking at the totally empty room—well, besides the rocking chair.

"We'll get it done. You're always stressing. Just relax. Enjoy pregnancy."

Natalie laughed. "That's easy for a man to say."

Together, the walked down the stairs. As Nat sat at the table and Henry made some grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner, Natalie thought once more of her mother, who she hadn't heard from in a few months.

I'll probably be like her, she found herself thinking. I always have been, at least a little bit. But I'll be even better.
