This is Day 18 of the 100 Day Drabble Challenge. It's based on the picture Everything the Sun Touches by kilala97 (it includes some of her fabulous next gen OCs.)
The sun was rising once again Equestria, bathing the land in a golden light. The world was quiet. All the ponies were asleep. Well, almost all. On the balcony of the castle in Canterlot stood Princess Celestia and her son Illusion. They watched the sleepy city in silence until the young prince asked, "Mother, is this all our kingdom?"
Celestia nodded. "Look, Illusion. Everything the sun touches is our kingdom."
The little pony hybrid gaped at his mother. "Wow," he said quietly. Then a puzzled look crossed over his face. "But what about when it's nighttime?"
Suddenly a great racket came from the hall behind them. Mother and son looked back to see Princess Luna with her little daughter Nidra. Luna's face was one of exhaustion and irritation as the young filly kicked and screamed. Her tail was caught by her mother's magic and she was being dragged down the hall.
"I don't wanna go to bed!" she shouted with a voice that was surely too young for such a small pony.
"I'm afraid you don't have a choice, my lovely daughter," Luna growled through gritted teeth.
The pair went farther on down the hall, and Nidra's cries faded away. Celestia and Illusion looked at each other for a moment. Then peals of laughter sounded throughout the whole castle, starting a new day in the kingdom.
