This is my first (but hopefully not last) Doctor Who fic, it's set during the 8th series, when Danny finds out about the Doctor and Clara.
Now, I know I don't have the conversation between Clara, the Doctor and Danny down verbatim. This is for a couple reasons: A: I'm to darn lazy to get each word and the exact tones for the entire scene. And 2: I heard somewhere that you can get in trouble for posting the exact words from a scene online, (copyright issues I guess?) I don't think that the BBC will really care if I post the entire scene verbatim but I'd rather not risk it, because with my luck, they'll care.
"I love him!" Clara cried. The Doctor could see the truth of the statement in her eyes. As panicky as she was, she was being truthful. She loved him.
Clara loved the PE teacher.
Clara. Loved. Him.
The knowledge hit him with such force that he had to look away for a moment. Clara couldn't love this...this...PE teacher! She couldn't! He wasn't her type, he was a soldier! Clara didn't like Soldiers! Clara liked men who weren't soldiers!
She had to be faking it. "Why would you say that?" That's it! Clara was faking, this was part of the surprise play! It had to be! "Is this all apart of the surprise play?"
"There is no surprise play." Clara said, sounding dejected. Did she wish she didn't like this PE teacher? Did she not want to be his girlfriend? That was good that she didn't want to be his girlfriend. If she wasn't the PE teacher's girlfriend she wouldn't leave and they could continue to travel with the TARDIS.
But then it hit him, what she'd said. There is no surprise play. "It's a roller coaster with you tonight!" The Doctor snapped, he paced around the room, not paying attention to what he was saying. Whatever he'd said must must have made sense to Clara because she responded un-confused.
"No, no no. He's just a friend and not my type."
The PE teacher spoke now, his question breaking through the fog that seemed to be gathering in the Doctor's mind. "Are you going to explain any of this? Who is this guy?"
"The Doctor is..." Clara started, but she couldn't seem to finish her sentence.
"Well?" The Doctor said, he and Clara had been traveling together for a while, she should know who he was by now.
"Please explain, why have you never mentioned him before?" PE teacher asked.
"Because..." Clara seemed to deflate now. "He's an alien."
That's all I am? Just an alien? He could tell Clara was trying to figure out what to say so he turned and walked to where he'd hidden the TARDIS. He could hear the conversation going on behind him but he tuned it out. Clara was saying something about traveling through time and space and he thrust the curtains aside. "Exhibit A." He announced.
This seemed to bolster Clara and she spoke with more confidence. "It's called the TARDIS but it's disguised as an old police phone box." She turned to him, hands fluttering as she tried to get the wording right."It's bigger on the inside then the outside."
The Doctor opened the TARDIS doors "Viola." he knew he was being short, but the faster they got this over with the better.
"And we travel the Universe in it."
The PE teacher approached the TARDIS carefully, as if it was about to jump out and bite him. Didn't this man know that space ships didn't go around biting people? It would make no sense for them to do that. But what else could he expect from a soldier?
The PE Soldier looked into the TARDIS and then at the outside. The Doctor could feel Clara looking at him but he refused to look at her. If she was really in love with this PE teacher, she would leave him. Soon he wouldn't be able to look at her even if he wanted to, he might as well get used to not seeing her now.
But unbidden, his gaze was drawn to her. She seemed lighter, all of a sudden. Happier. He'd never seen her this happy. She'd never been this happy with him, not even before he'd regenerated. Clara was happy with her PE Teacher Soldier Man.
"What about that thing, did you bring it here?" The PE teacher's question pulled the Doctor out of his thoughts.
The Doctor could have sworn that he'd used the Skovox Blitzer's name in front of the PE teacher. Why wasn't he referring to it with its name? Although you couldn't expect much out of a Soldier so it shouldn't really be surprising that he wasn't using proper names. "No, I'm here to protect you from the thing."
"You said it was coming back."
"Yes, it is coming back, thanks to you."
"This is a school, we need help, we need to call the army."
"That would be the most dangerous thing, right there." He closed the TARDIS doors and turned to Clara. "Are you sure hypnotizing is not on the menu?" he asked.
"Yes." Clara said, sounding a bit annoyed.
"We need to get help, this is an emergency!" The PE teacher insisted.
The Doctor had had enough. HE was the help, but then the soldier man and Clara had blundered in and ruined things. He could figure it out, he just needed to be allowed the time to do it and it wasn't going to happen if he was busy explaining everything to this PE teacher soldier man. The one Clara loved.
"Go, shut him up, or down. Up or down, I don't care, I've got a lot of work to do again."
"Will you be okay?" Clara asked.
"I was doing fine until you two blundered in." The doctor insisted.
"Am I just being ignored?" The PE teacher asked. Clara started to lead him out, the way the PE teacher was acting so clingy suddenly reminded him of Mickey.
"When this is all over you can finish the job." The Doctor said, folding his arms across his chest.
Clara turned her brow furrowing in confusion. "How do you mean?"
"You've explained me to him, but you haven't explained him to me."
Clara didn't respond, just turned back around and followed the PE teacher out of the room.
The Doctor turned back to the chairs. As long as no one else blundered in he could save the world.
