"What do you think?"
Rose's blue eyes snapped up. There was that look-She had to fight the urge to check that there was no dribble looming on her blouse.
"Oh, yeah...sure." Rose mumbled.
A concerned look flashed over the Doctor's dark features, his brow creasing at the centre. Was that the wrong answer, she wondered worriedly to herself. In two great strides the Doctor crossed the TARDIS console to where Rose was stretched out on the tattered jumpseat. One smooth move later a mechanical whirring told her he was sonicing her tension filled body, no doubt checking her hormone levels as if tiredness was an alien thing to him.
"Yep," He concluded, checking results from the screwdriver, "You, Rose Tyler, are in desperate need of a trip to your mother."
"What?"Indignation crossed her young face. How could he know that? It was true of course...lately Rose's mind had been drifting to thoughts of her mother, Jackie, and her best friend Mickey. She missed them so much sometimes. It wasn't so bad when they were running hand in hand, it was moment like this; the drifting in space on a larger than life spaceship. It had the capacity to evoke feeling of loneliness in you.
"We'll go straight away, young lady." The Doctor ran his hands through his already tousled brown hair.
"But-"
"No buts, Rose, I promised your mother I would look after you, and that is what I'm doing."
Bemused, Rose sighed and dragged herself from the comfy position she was in. She hated how he always seemed to be right.
"You are so just trying to get brownie points with her." Rose retorted.
He hated how she was always right.
The door bell rang with a shrill cry. Flustered, Jackie Tyler threw her washing to the side and bolted over mess towards the door of the small flat. Please God let it be my Rose.
Taking a deep breath she tentatively opened the door, hoping, praying for Rose to be on the other side.
"Hi!" It wasn't her Rose-Instead a spotty faced youth with greasy brown hair stood in her doorway. "Are you interested in a chance to win a Holiday for two on a remote island? Couples only and over the age of 18." He seemed to say this without breathing, or pausing, or thinking.
Sympathy filled Jackie (something that didn't often happen), it was obvious that the boy held little interest and was on minimum wages if any.
"Go on then love, I'll take one for my daughter and her...," What should she say? The two acted as though they were married already. "Partner."
After taking a leaflet and ticket, she reluctantly closed the door, hoping to hear the TARDIS whine into the yard below.
A lone tear slid down Jackie's cheek, how she missed her daughter. Rose's long blonde hair, optimism, her humour, her kind eyes. Life had been harder than she had thought without Rose.
Lost in thought, she didn't hear the door creak open and two pairs of footsteps tumble inside.
"Mum? Muuum? I'm home!"
"Jackie?"
Jackie Cried out in exasperation at the sound of the familiar voices and sprinted over to the porch and embraced them both in a tight hug, kissing then both on the head. Elation filled her heart. Her baby, her precious Rose was finally home.
Some hours later, after the adventures had been mulled over and the doctor slapped multiple times for the uncountable danger he had put rose in, Rose and her mother where finally alone in the Kitchen. Rose sipped quietly at her milky tea whilst her mother washed up dishes from the dinner they had all shared beforehand.
"You look like you could do with a Holiday, Rose." Rose opened her mouth to protest, but closed it when she glimpsed her mother's concerned eyes. "Not from him, That's not what I mean, but from running, from being in danger...save yourself for once in a while and get a tan at the same time for heaven's sake. I've got these two tickets, a competition I'm sure the Doctor could fix you two to win... some messenger delivered them this afternoon. Now I want you to take them and go on a Holiday on Earth please. Do this for me Rose?"
Rose needless to say was not expecting this, but who was she to turn a holiday down. The desperation on her mother's face left no room for denial, she had no choice (like most women, when a Tyler woman decided something, nothing could dissuade her). Excitement bubbled through her at eh thought of white sanded beaches and a beating sun bronzing her skin. And one thing was for sure: If the Doctor was coming with her, it was going to be an interesting experience.
