Subject VMHJ is currently being briefed as to the nature of the delay in processing. Your presence is requested to oversee the handling of subject VDL upon arrival. Subject VMHJ will be brought to the Suspended Holding Department when the arrival of subject VDL has been confirmed.

Corbin leaned back in his chair and gazed steadily at the witch across the desk from him. She was far cleaner than when she had first arrived and was now wearing the standard cotton flannel garb signature to those being processed.
"So that's it? I'm just supposed to sit here and wait because your department is backlogged?" She seemed unhappy but that was to be expected.
"Miss Granger, please understand that there are procedures that must be followed. Your premature arrival has sparked a flurry of activity to prepare for the arrival of your mate in the Suspended Holding Department. As soon as I have confirmation then I will take you to him."
Now she just looked confused. "What are you talking about? I'm sorry, you must now have me confused with someone else. I don't have a mate. And for that matter..."
Corbin leaned forward with his hand up to stop her tirade before she could get into full swing. "Miss Granger, I am not mistaken about your identity. I have your file here: Hermione Jean Granger - Velarin Mate - Premature arrival."
"What's a velarin?"

Corbin had escorted Hermione from his office in Reception and Holding down to the Suspended Holding Department. She was currently standing quietly and rather pensively in front of a holding room staring at the occupant.
Subject VDL was unconscious and suspended in the middle of the holding room as per protocol. His bedraggled appearance was gradually improving as the signs of battle and death faded from him. The only clothes he had been wearing when he arrived were a pair of black pants that were ripped and burned. His large black wings showed indication of heavy use during battle. As they waited, his torn pants were replaced by clean cotton flannel and his wings lost the droop while the black battle-damaged exterior faded to healthy dark cream colored feathers. His wings folded up behind him and slowly faded from sight.
His head was bent forward and blonde hair hung down obscuring his features. The burns and cuts on his visible flesh were fading as well as the dirt and soot. Bare feet now appeared clean while suspended four inches above the floor.
Once the death cleansing process was over Hermione turned to Corbin and said "Now what? I don't even recognize him, who is he?"
Corbin checked his file before answering her, "Ah, it appears that he reached his magical maturity three weeks after your passing. His body will have changed to accommodate as necessary. Now, we do not deviate from protocol when a Velarin mate arrives in Reception before her Velarin. It is now your turn to go in and wake him. It's not difficult, simply touch him."
"But who is he? And why do I have to do it?"
With a heavy sigh Corbin gave her the short version. "Your Velarin suffered your loss and avenged your death. If he were to wake here without you being present he would wreak havoc on these offices. You are the only one that he could wake to and be able to keep rational thought."
She turned back to look at the man in holding again with rather wide eyes. After a moment she turned back to Corbin again rather abruptly and said, "What did you mean earlier when you said my premature arrival?"
"Miss Granger, please stop stalling and go wake the poor boy. I will explain that little headache to both of you at the same time."

Subjects VMHJ and VDL were successfully reset to Mortal Coil Date and Time September 2, 1993, 5:45am. All pertinent forms were signed by subjects and submitted for filing in P.E.R.G.A.T.O.R.Y.
~Jack, I still find it difficult to believe that these two were key to avoiding losing such a large portion of land mass in the northern hemisphere of Earth. When I informed Miss Granger of the subsequent battle and exposure after her death and the mundane response to it, she insisted I send her back. It was interesting to see her so worked up and still desperately trying to ignore her Velarin while his face was pressed into her hair. When they left here she was still ignoring him and he was determined to do whatever it took to gain her favor. Poor sap. I'll see you at Janet's on Thursday, Corbin~
