Jack shifted himself into a more comfortable position on the sandy floor of their cave. The use of the word "cave" was generous, as their cramped limestone hideout was little more than a crevice.

"Who do you think would win in a fight, Emily or Laura?" Arvin asked suddenly. It was a game they invented about a month ago to pass the time during a tedious eyes and ears op.

Jack snorted softly.
"Are they armed?"

"With what?"

"I don't know...kitchen knives? I've seen Laura carve a chicken. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that knife."

Arvin's low chuckle echoed down the back of the cave, where it was too tight for either of them to squeeze.
"Emily's not much of a meat eater, but she chops a lot of vegetables."

"Still, I think it would be Laura. She's wiry - I bet she's fast."

"Ok, Laura," Arvin conceded.

"How about Superman vs. Batman?"

"That's easy - Batman."

"Why is that easy?" Jack wanted to know. "Superman has superpowers. Batman just has gadgets."

He heard a metallic tapping noise.

"All we have is gadgets," Arvin said. "You can do a lot with gadgets."

"Gadgets can break, or malfunction. Superman's power comes from within," Jack argued.

"Superman also had a weakness which, no matter what he did, he could never surmount. With the right gadgets, Batman could surmount any obstacle."

"Even Godzilla?"

"Batman would waste Godzilla," Arvin said with confidence.

Jack laughed.
"Yeah, but I wouldn't put bets on him against Laura with a kitchen knife."

"Oh, I don't know. I'd say it's a pretty even match," Arvin said with a grin.
