Mai was thinking that Ty Lee herself was probably one of these goblins, or maybe the sibling of their king. How else would she have known of this place or that stupid incantation? Mai had just been sitting, even more bored then usual as she babysat her little brother, when he started to cry. Annoyed, she'd muttered it under her breath sarcastically. "I wish the goblins would come and take you away. Right now," she'd looked over when he'd quieted down to find an empty crib. It was as if Ty Lee thought of her best friend as a silly heroine in a fantasy story; at least, if this was the set up Mai thought it might be.

A large cat-owl flew up to the locked window. Strangely, the window flew open, curtains waving on the still night. It was a bit much. In a flash of light a man stood in the place of the animal. His wild brown hair stuck out everywhere, and Mai was studiously not looking at his…leggings. A piece of straw jutted out of his mouth in a way that screamed 'wild.' All in all, definitely seeming to be Ty Lee's mythical Goblin King.

"You called?" he smirked. His arrogance pushed Mai into action. She put her hands down the sleeves of her long black blouse, and in a flash the stranger was pinned to the wall by an outline of stilettos.

"On the belief you weren't real, I suppose I did," she answered calmly. From his place on the wall, the Goblin King was quickly reassessing his new friend. He was also assessing the strength of her knives as opposed to his magic. She continued as he struggled, "but I rather need my brother back. Mother and father are quite fond of him. I know you must have lackeys around somewhere, so how about a trade? Your life for him?" There was definitely cold steel on his throat now. Jet was positive.

He had just loosed himself enough to summon his own weapons, however, and Mai felt a similar sensation as two strange hooked swords touched her throat.

"Be my queen?" Jet asked.

"No," was the flat reply, though Mai's mind was happy with the most interesting event in months happening.

"I'll return your brother," he bargained, "if you just come to my palace for a while."

"I could still gut you, you know," she remarked as she considered the offer. It seemed like this "King" was a hard bargainer so far, and she really did need to retrieve Tom Tom. She didn't want her mother thinking Azula had killed him or something.

"Deal," she decided. Anyway, a Goblin palace had to be more interesting than here. Jet decided not to tell her the palace was a treehouse.
