The twins were going to be seven in a few days, and it was hard to imagine that we had moved to California seven years ago. Maxwell and I were going to be celebrating our eighth year anniversary as a married couple. Though we'd been together for 13 sorta. Eve and Jonah were born early in the morning the day after the party. I had gone into labor with them at the party.
Here we were seven years later, Maxwell and I still happily married and more in love than ever. Eve and Jonah were smart and wonderful. Four years ago I had their sister Jessica, Jessie for short. California turned out to be the best thing for us. And the older three Maggie, Brighton and Grace, well they're gone and thriving. And we see them all the time. All of us are still so close.
Oh I almost forgot about Niles and Miss. Babcock. They are still at each other's throats with the teasing and insults, and madly in love with two little ones of their own. Life has turned out pretty good for them too. CC is still Maxwell's business partner and Niles is still the butler.
Life couldn't be better. Val moved to California with Fred. Ma and daddy did too. It wasn't right away, but boy was I ever so glad to have them close again. Maxwell, well I'm not going to say one way or the other on that one.
(Doorbell rings bringing me back to reality). "Val, come in." I said.
Val was coming over to help me with the twins party. All of a sudden Niles came out with that look on his face like something was up.
"You may want to postpone the party." Niles said.
"Why?"
"Mr. Sheffield is ill ma'am."
Still with the formality, even after all these years.
"What do you mean he's ill?"
"Sick."
"No, Niles, I mean how is he sick. He was fine last night."
"Did you not notice he didn't join your for breakfast?"
"He said he wasn't hungry cause he wanted to get right to work. So he went to his office."
"And you haven't checked on him."
"Excuse me Val."
I left and went into Max's office. He was laying on his couch with one hand on his stomach and the other on his forehead with his eyes closed.
"Sweetie, you feeling okay?" I said as softly as I could.
He opened his eyes a little. "Yeah, I'm fine darling." He said through a hoarse voice a little cough.
I looked at him with a look of concern.
