Chapter One - Immortal Wings
As Light lay on the stairs of the abandoned building, feeling his life somewhat draining away, he closed his eyes and lost his last moments in thought. Behind his eyelids, completely blind to the monotony of the world he was about to leave, he saw Ryuk. His eyes were staring straight into Light's- an almost unpleasant stare. Light stared back. His spirit was as brave as he had been when he was fully alive.. Only, now he was barely breathing. Ryuk turned to a figured cloaked in a black shadow and spoke:
"Light does not deserve to die. If I have to die in his place, then so be it."
Light wanted to shout and tell Ryuk to go on and let him die, but as hard as he struggled, he couldn't seem to find his voice. He could see his spirit-form self hang his head and quake as though he was crying.
"Then your soul shall transfer your lifespan to him,"
It happened almost suddenly- Ryuk doubled over and the wings from his back fell off, and turned into a pile of blood and feathers. Light's spirit-form reached out for Ryuk, but was unable to move it's feet- as if frozen by fear, by want.. By greed. He wanted Ryuk to give him his soul. He wanted revenge. He lusted for it, even. He wanted to take everything away from those who killed him, just like they had done to him not too long ago.
Ryuk fell to the ground with an ear-splitting scream. He twisted into unnatural position, and then his back broke, along with other various parts of his body, and he went limp. A white light surrounded him, and then Ryuk's soul distinguished itself from the light, holding a hand out to Light's spirit-form. He took it, and then an electric energy spread from Ryuk's spirit into Light's. He was lifted off of the ground, towards what might have been the brightest of all lights. There were whispers, laughs, musical sounds.. Hard to believe that he was going to Heaven after he had denied anything religious. Wasn't it Jesus who once said, 'If you deny me before your followers, I shall deny you before my father," or something along those lines? Light had denied him, but it looked like Jesus welcomed him with open arms.
"Welcome, my son."
"I'm not staying here," Light smirked.
"But you must, you must let your soul rest. One day you will be re-born."
"No, I've already been re-born. Ryuk gave his life so I could have mine back. This is the only second chance I'll need- the only one I'll get- to get my revenge."
Your soul has been tainted with evil! Lucifer has influenced you! Go, and do not return!
"You don't have to tell me twice," he turned around, and fell off of the cloud that he had been on, shedding his white wings to be replaced with wings the color of newly-shed blood. His eyes glowed to match his wings, and then faded to a seemingly abysmal black. The quest for vengeance that he set out on would never end. Light had become immortal.
