It started out as a normal day. L and Soichiro were on the second week of watching Light on the surveillance cameras Watari had installed all throughout the Yagami household. It was just around the time Light normally woke up, and L had to mentally slap himself to keep from dozing off. Soichiro and L would both agree that it had been a very long week.
True to routine, Light woke up , taking a quick moment to stretch before shrugging the blankets off and getting out of bed.
Oh, L thought, that's a bit awkward.
Light had, for whatever reason, slept without any clothes on that night. Casually, L poked at his cake crumbs with his fork in slight irritation. With a sigh, he refocused his attention on the monitor.
Oh, good. Light was opening his underwear drawer. Although he wasn't particularly sensitive to it, L preferred it if Light did look decent.
Oh, Light closed the drawer without taking anything out of it. He must not have found what he's looking for.
Or not. He was opening the drawer again. He must have changed his mind.
…And he closed it. Again, without taking anything out. Erm. Weird.
Okay, Light opened it again. This was just becoming bizarre.
Drawer closed.
L bit his thumbnail.
Drawer open.
L scratched his head. Perhaps it was OCD?
Drawer closed.
Fuck, it was too early in the morning for this.
Drawer open.
"Yagami-san."
Drawer closed.
"Yes?"
Drawer open.
"Do you have any idea what your son is doing?"
Drawer closed.
"I have no idea."
At least ten minutes passed, and Light was still opening and closing his drawer.
"That's it!" Soichiro cried, "I'm going to go home and stop him!"
"If you feel it necessary, I won't protest. But I do implore you not to do anything to tip off Light to the fact that we are watching him."
"Of course, Ryuzaki."
And so, Soichiro, a very concerned father, headed over to stop his son from continuing this…whatever he was doing.
"Oh, hey, Dad. What are you doing here so early in the morning?"
Soichiro ignored his daughter's greeting and walked briskly up the stairs leading to his son's room. Almost at his door, Soichiro began to feel a bit nervous. What if he burst in and his son only to find that he wasn't doing it anymore?
He'd better check with Ryuzaki.
Whipping out his cell phone, he quickly dialed L's number.
"Is he still doing it?"
"He is still doing it," L confirmed.
"Alright, I'm going in."
With not a second to lose, Soichiro put his phone back in his pocket and whooshed the door open, preparing himself for the worst. Light, his precious, precious, OCD, losing-his-mind Light was…
Sitting on his bed reading a math book? Fully dressed? Not having some kind of mental breakdown?
Oh.
Okay.
"Dad?" Light sounded surprised.
Well, of course he did.
"Oh, um, sorry. I just thought I heard something. Uh…forget about it."
He slowly shut the door.
His hand went again to his cell phone, just in time for it to ring. "Ryuzaki, Light isn't—"
"I know. I just discovered that the video was stuck on repeat. A technological error."
"…Great."
Thanks to Stormygio for helping me get the idea for this fic.
