Jade sat on her messy bedroom floor grunting in frustration. She had her favorite pair of scissors in hand and was cutting away at everything she had spread out in front of her. Old pictures of her and Beck at school, at the mall, or even at the beach. It didn't matter what was going on in the pictures, she just wanted to ruin all of them.
"Stupid Beck and his stupid face!" she shouted.
Most of the photos had already been torn in half. She went through them again to make sure Beck was completely cut out of her side of the picture. Jade wanted the pictures to be torn in half, the same way her heart had been.
In her frustration at Beck's face Jade didn't hear the slight knock at her door. When she didn't answer a voice rang through instead. "Jade?" It was Tori Vega. "Jade, can I come in?"
"What do you want Vega?"
"I just want to talk to you. To make sure you're doing okay."
"Why wouldn't I be okay?" Jade continued to cut the picture in her hand.
"Jade come on. Just let me in so we can talk about it? Trust me you'll feel much better." Tori waited a beat before adding, "Misery loves company."
Jade didn't answer. Tori figured she was ignoring her so she turned to leave just as Jade's bedroom door opened.
"Make it quick Vega," Jade said as she turned back to the pictures on the floor to continue her task.
Tori looked around at all of the pictures on the floor. She remembered some of them; some she had taken herself, and she was in some of the others. She picked up the Jade half of one of the Beck half of one of the photos and immediately noticed the jagged edge that had taken over part of his body. The Jade half of the picture was in front of her as well so she picked it up. The edge of Jade's body wasn't jagged but it had obviously been cut. It was a clean cut so she had obviously worked hard to get Beck completely out of her picture.
"Do you really think ruining a bunch of pictures is going to help you get past this?" Tori asked.
"If you're here to judge my coping mechanisms you can just leave now."
Tori put up her hands in defense. "Okay. Okay, I get it. Everyone has their own way of coping with heartbreak and this is yours."
"Exactly."
"But Jade, do you think cutting Beck out of your life is a good idea. I mean look at these pictures, some of them have more than just you and Beck in them. By cutting out Beck you're cutting out some of our friends." Tori pointed to one specific pictures, "In this one you cut out Cat and Andre." She continued to point out her friends in other pictures and Jade listened to her drone on and on.
Eventually Jade had had enough. "What's your point Tori?"
"I just mean that you can't use cut Beck completely out of your life because all of your friends are his friends too. You do need your space from him but eventually the two of you will have to face each other. You can't use scissors to solve all of your problems."
"Well, they're working for now."
Tori watched Jade continue to cut more of the pictures in half. She looked over the rest of the pictures and an idea began to form. "Jade wait."
"What?"
"Maybe these scissors aren't all that bad. Maybe they can actually do some good."
"What?" Jade asked in disbelief. "What are you talking about?"
Tori opened her hand, "Hand over the scissors."
"What? No way."
"Come on Jade. I just need to show you something, then you can have them back." Tori waited before adding, "Please?"
Jade looked at her scissors, then back at Tori who had a pleading look on her face. "Fine." She handed Tori the scissors with with a sigh, "Make it quick."
"Thank you." Tori proceeded to pick up one of the untouched pictures, it was one of Beck, Jade, and herself next to a statue. She began to cut. "You see, while scissors are seen to do nothing but cut unwanted things you can also use them to create something even better." Tori finished her cutting and presented Jade with the picture, "See?"
The picture no longer contained Beck or the statue, all that was left was Jade and Tori. Tori continued, "Sometimes when we cut out the bad it's a necessary evil to find something better." She stood up to leave as Jade sat there contemplating her words. A confused look crossed over Jade's features. Tori walked over to the door but before leaving she turned back to Jade, "Take a minute and think about it Jade." With that she walked away.
Jade sat there dumbfounded. Was Tori insinuating that she was better for her than Beck? She looked at the picture once again and traced over the smiles on her face and Tori's. One corner of her mouth cocked up in a half smile
A/N: Short and sweet. I know there wasn't any romance in here but I promise as the week progresses more romance will be incorporated. I just really felt like this story was right, besides I also ship the Jori friendship.
To all the readers of A Curious Case: I promise to get back on track next week. I couldn't resist the pull of Jori week and I didn't want to overwork myself. I hope you like this story though.
Thank you for reading!
