walking distance

How far away are you?

Within walking distance,

It may be a mile away,

but I'm strong and I can make it,

I promised I would find you,

and I swear I really will,

but you're so cold and broken,

since you found your truth,

I cry for you with tears of pain,

I can't believe the empathy is there,

my heart it aches,

my soul it screams,

and still you never speak to me,

I try so hard to show you light,

that it'll be okay,

that maybe things aren't so bad,

but you only cuss and scream,

I want you to know I'm here for you,

if you need anything,

don't give up,

don't go away,

just come back to me,

how far is your heart I ask,

you say it's gone away,

I know that everything is black,

no color left in the world,

it's all like charcoal burnt to ash,

and then the wind blows gray,

I'm in the light,

I'm in the sun,

I'm missing you more each day,

so what if I can still touch you?

You've clearly slipped and gone,

you strayed too far from happiness,

is that what we had?

I hurt so much just watching you,

I want to wipe away your tears,

you scream and cuss and hurt so much,

I wonder where you go to get away,

I offer you reprieve,

I offer you my hand,

but will you ever accept me?

will you take me for what I am?

I know nothing is perfect,

and I'm so far from that,

but maybe I'll be your happiness,

and you can be my world,

so I follow you into darkness,

watching fading light,

hoping I can bring you back,

and put the light back in your eyes,

I want you to be happy,

I want to see you smile,

into the darkness,

out of the light,

the monsters surrounding you reek,

their skin is black,

their eyes are gold,

they stink of blight and sickness,

skin ripples with muscles beneath,

broken and bleeding,

you lie there,

they ripped you apart,

they took you from me,

I grab you close and drag you away,

nothing is left in your eyes,

I pour all my soul into you,

and never let you go,

I chase the monsters away from you,

dispelling all their evil,

I drag you slowly out,

out of the night and into the day,

I found you just like I said,

I will never let you go,

you shiver in my arms,

I hold you tighter still,

Please don't ever leave me again,

I cannot stand it here,

I notice that you're broken,

so I must put you back together,

I gather all the pieces and fit them in the slots,

I kiss you to breathe life in but nothing happens,

I cry my tears again,

I notice the edges are torn and frayed,

I must pull you back together,

I will make you beautiful and fill your life with brightness,

I grab the threads that make your heart and weave them back together,

pull them back and weave them tight and again even tighter,

I'm looking through the tears at your broken bleeding self,

I hug you close to me,

and you finally give me response,

I look into your eyes,

those once haunted darkened orbs,

now filled with so much hope,

I kiss you once again and you accept the light,

how far is your heart I ask,

you say I hold it in my hands.
