Destiny

"Destiny is the path you form. Fate of another intertwines with it, until the lines are so crossed you can't tell the difference between the two. Eventually, like everyone else, your life must end." Dedicated to BlackBabyBatBunny who inspired this.

Ace stared at the path in front of him. It was silver and smooth as glass. It was surrounded by a forest. He looked behind him, but found nothing. He was standing on the edge of a cliff. Below the cliff was a bottomless pit. He looked ahead of him again. He couldn't go back, so he started to move forward.

He started walking along the path. After passing a tree or two, he heard a very odd noise. A wailing baby. He looked around him. There was no baby, but he could still hear the wailing. But now the bit of forest that he had passed was gone too. The bottomless pit had gotten larger and had gobbled up the trees. So he started forward again, hoping the wailing would stop soon.

It did and instead was replaced by a voice. He couldn't make out what it was saying, but the tone was warm and loving and definitly feminine. He smiled. For some reason, he felt he should know the voice, but he couldn't place it. So he moved forward. After a step another voice, deeper, still unable to understand the words but with the same tone joined the female one. He had the same feeling, but still couldn't place either voice.

He went down further along the path. The voices were replaced by laughter. Bright, happy laughter. He shrugged, grinned and moved on. Crying, not wailing of a baby, but crying took the place of laughter. He walked forward, still hearing things and getting feelings from every noise, feeling, deep inside that he should know where they belonged, but he didn't.

Happy yells, a feeling of freedom, the feeling of running. He still wasn't very far down the path now. An insistent voice, claiming something, something unknown, something important. A frustrated feeling. Feeling angry, mocking voices. He was getting further now. Someone was saying something funny, laughter, a good feeling, a warm feeling.

Anger, happiness, sadness, laughter. Each were coming. He was jogging down the path now, the bottomless pit consuming what lay behind him. Many different voices are joined in. A loving, female one. A mocking male one. A joyous, young sounding voice from both a girl and boy. He was almost at the end of the path now. A withered, old, male voice came in and for the first time he understood what the voice was saying.

"You have walked all down your path of destiny. Fate has combined with it, bringing good and bad people into your life. All those feelings, all those voices, are those you have experience, whether you remember them or not. Those first voices were your parents, Tom and Ella. The laughter was you as a baby. When you were ten and no one would believe you about those bullies. Those bullies bothering you. That warm feeling was your first crush. Your two children and your wife, being part of the Loonatics. And finally me. I am you, well, the way you look outside of this dream."

An anthro appeared in front of him. Ace, the one who had walked down the path, was still looking the way he had when he met the Loonatics. The anthro in front of him though was clearly much older. He was taller, his long pointy ears droopy slightly. His face was lined with wrinkles, the ones around his eyes laugh lines. He slouched a bit and his hands were thin and wrinkled, a cane clutched in them. Unlike Ace he wasn't in his Loonatics uniform, rather in casual spark in his saphire eyes was as bright as ever and his lips formed a warm smile.

"You are simply the soul part of yourself and I am the body. While the body remains on Earth the soul goes on to the Afterlife." Ace stopped in front of him. His older self wrapped an arm around the yellow bunny. "Come. You have fufilled your destiny, fate intertwining with it. Considering how well our life turned out I don't think you mind." Ace found the elder bunny was right, he wouldn't have wanted his life any other way. "You're simply younger than me because your soul was happiest with the Loonatics. It was the best years of our life. Their waiting for you, beyond these gates."

As soon as he spoke bright shining golden gates appeared in front of them. They had little designs etched into them. With a wave of his wrinkled hand they swung open. Ace looked back along the path he had come. He saw all his memories through his own eyes as they appeared in the sky. Some of them happy, some of them sad. The bottomless pit was still there, there was no turning back now. He smiled and felt something stirring within him.

The memories turned into swirling colours. Pink, yellow, green, purple, orange and red. Like gusts of wind they sped toward him. They went into his body through his heart. He took a deep breathe then turned and faced the older Ace. "I'm ready." And it couldn't have been more true. He had lived his life. He had made mistakes but he had made good choices too. He had married a certain pink bunny and had a family. He would get to see his parents who had passed on a while before beyond the gates and his friends. The Afterlife would be wonderful, just as going down his path of life and destiny had been. He was ready. His older self smiled.

"Then welcome to the Afterlife."
