Prologue
A/N: Okay, so after learning from my mistakes in my previous BlOps Zombies FanFic, that also involved time travel, I feel like this time it's gonna work out for sure. If you were a fan of that story then I'm sorry to disappoint but this is not a revise of it. Don't worry, it's not entirely dead. Ideas for it still pop up into my head from time to time but I have no motivation to write it anytime soon. Also in this story Misty and Marlton have been friends since first grade, just to add a level of familiarity between the families. On with the story!
The quant little town of Green Run, Washington. Rolling green hills, beautiful mountain views, and crystal clear lakes. A place were everyone is friendly and nothing dangerous or exciting ever happens. At least, that's how it was before the zombies came. As soon as she saw the news Misty packed her things and threw them, and her roommate Marlton, into her truck and drove North from California to Green Run. They seemed to be ahead of the infection but after every stop the zombies would swarm their location faster and faster. They drove all through the night, reaching their destination at around 10:30 in the morning. But by that time the infection had already hit Green Run.
The once quiet town was now riddled with the sounds of chaos as people ran left and right trying to avoid an untimely end at the cold hands of their reanimated friends and family. They drove through the town past people and over others, though Misty was sure they were undead, till they passed the power station into the stretch of farmlands that most of Green Run had houses on. After another 10 minuets of driving the sounds of panic and destruction were behind them. Only occasionally would they hear someone scream or hear a gunshot go off. They reached Marlton's house first but when they drove into the driveway they realized something was wrong, there were no signs of forced entry but also no signs of life at all. Misty kept the car running just in case and reached into the glove compartment to get the Colt .45 she kept there for emergencies.
They entered the house with caution, keeping quiet and avoiding the squeaky floor boards. They checked every room in the house, they even checked closets and under the beds. All that was left was the attic. They walked back to the end of the main hall where the stairs were. When they tried to turn the handle they realized that it was locked. Thinking that someone might be up there they aired on the side of caution and knocked, calling the names of Marlton's mom and dad. They did this twice more before they heard the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs. They backed up and watched in an uneasy silence as the door slowly opened, revealing the terrified faces of Marlton's parents. As soon as they realized who it was both of Marlton's parents pulled him into a big hug, despite the slightly discussed look on his face, he returned the hug.
After a brief explanation about what happened, they grabbed all the food and water they could carry back to Misty's truck. Because her truck could only fit two, Marlton's parents took their small sedan. They set off down the road again to reach Misty's house. Even though the Johnsons and the Briartons were next door neighbors it still took a short drive to reach their house because of the large amount of fields between them. By the time they cleared the trees that surrounded the Briarton farm they could see that it was an all out war zone. A tractor was crashed into the side of the barn, which was partially on fire, her dads truck was an exploded heap of steel and glass, and the area where the gas grill once sat was nothing more then a giant smoking crater with charred body parts strewn about. Zombies were pounding on every available entrance to the first floor of the house but they all seemed to be boarded up tight.
Misty, worried about her family's safety, honked the horn as loud as she could and got out of the truck to shoot at all the zombies that started to walk towards her. A bullet was lodged into the brain of each one as they slowly got closer to her. She was about to shoot the last one when she ran out of ammo. Before the zombie could even begin to make a grab at her, it's head exploded into a mess of gore. Ignoring the blood that now covered her shirt, she looked up at the second story window to see her father looking down the smoking barrel of his favorite .44 Winchester 1873. Noticing that all the zombies were dead, her father dropped a rope ladder down from the window and yelled for them to get their asses up there. After grabbing all the supplies from the truck, they climbed the ladder and into the window.
Before Misty could even get both feet on the floor, her mother rushed up to her and smothered her with hugs and calming words of relief and love. When she was finally able to convince her mother that she was okay, she went downstairs to help her father check the boards that were locking down the house while Marlton was getting fussed over by his parents. None of the zombies appeared to have gotten in so they headed back upstairs to help sort out the supplies, but not before her dad engulfed her in a bear hug. He held he while saying some of the same things that her mother said.
With all the supplies sorted and the sleeping arrangements made the two families of three fell asleep, exhaustion causing them to fall into the world of sleep as soon as their heads hit the bed. None of them could think about what tomorrow would bring, or whether they would make it through the troubles that lay ahead. All they knew was that they were all together and safe for the night, and to them that's all that matters.
A/N: So I guess I should explain the lack of dialogue in this chapter. The fact is that by the time any true dialogue between characters would happen the chapter was about half way through and I thought to just keep it dialogue free. Don't worry, there will be some in the next chapter. Also, I'm gonna time skip forward each chapter by an undetermined amount of time but don't worry there will be an indicator of time, place, and person that chapter will start on. So let me know how it was and I hope I can stick to my guns and finish this FanFic unlike all others I've tried to start. Hope you enjoyed and leave a review if you like, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is always appreciated.
