Servants weren't meant to be interesting. Servants were meant to be seen and not heard. Servants were meant to be this and that, but Merlin wasn't your ordinary servant. This was evident because while here he was, hoping for a refill, Merlin was off talking to a maidservant. Not even paying attention to him! When this dinner is over, Merlin will be getting another lecture. Mostly about how he should be paying attention to his superior, so he could anticipate his needs!
Scowling at the inattentive Merlin, then down at his food and (empty) goblet, he took a deep breath. And started mentally listing off his manservant's many, many faults. But then... But then, there's the way he's not afraid to say what thinks (to him at least), his enthusiasm and passion, the (sometimes foolish) optimism, his beaming smile, deft fingers... Damnit! He could feel his annoyance for Merlin slipping out of his fingers.
Deepening his scowl, he looked up at Merlin. Who was looking at him with an appropriate deer-in-front-of-a-crossbow look, giving the maidservant an apologetic smile as he finally noticed. He tried to muster up some annoyance or frustration as Merlin came by his side to refill his goblet (finally!). Giving his servant a half-hearted glare, he was met with a beaming grin, and the final little silver of annoyance slipped through his fingers like smoke. Merlin went off to socialize some more, and he finally gulped down his drink.
Watching Merlin gesture wildly to the maidservant (probably about how Arthur saved his arse for the millionth time) he tried to muster up some negative feelings. But the grin white-washed his feelings, and he felt warm and happy. Or maybe it was his drink...
Sighing, he gave up on trying being annoyed at Merlin all night. Where Merlin was concerned, it was a lost cause.
