I guess with some people, their lives are entwined from the start. Others prefer to delay their destiny, in a bizarre dance of risks and fears. None of them
know when their fate is going to rise up to meet them...
Tongue of Thorns
She ran blindly, her feet stumbling against the rough gravel of the path. Her hair swung into her face, obscuring her view but she didn't care. How could he have betrayed me? Thunder growled menacingly in the darkened sky, and rain fell into her eyes. She stopped for a second to brush a wisp of amber hair to the side of her face.
Her love for him had been as intense as pain.
She remembered a happier day, when he had been playing with her copper
tresses, laughing all the while, pure joy radiating from his features.
She had frowned and asked him why he was so happy.
He had smiled "look!"
She had glanced up in the sky, her eyes searching for his source of joy. A few hawks were swooping overhead, the early morning sun encasing them in a rich orange glow. She had remained puzzled, while his clear laugh sliced through the air like a knife.
After a few moments he had turned to her, grinning as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Don't you see? His voice had been sincere and gentle. They are like us. They fly on their wings to the cloudy skies. Whatever is going on in the world below them, they can escape it. They can soar to a different world, a paradise. No limits, no boundaries. Now do you see?'
She has hesitated. "I guess so."
His amber eyes stared at her, as though she was the only girl in the world.
Damn it! Why had she remembered his amber eyes, the eyes that used to soften whenever they looked at her? He was nothing to her anymore. She willed herself to be strong. She needed to be.
She turned ready to continue on. She didn't have a clue where but she needed to escape his presence.
"Hello, Love."
She stiffened as she heard his voice, hating the way she always fell for his silky British accent. A soft hiss escaped her as she realised there was no way out.
"I told you I'll find you."
She did not answer. His words were lies, wrapped in thorns and dipped in poison. She would not listen to him anymore.
"So, about our little dispute."
He took out a silver pistol.
Just then a lady's voice sounded. She remembered her. The lady whose rage was rotting her from the inside, which would always mar her beauty. The lady whose quest for ultimate conquest had been worth more to her then her own blood.
"Shoot her!"
His lips trembled, his amber eyes doubtful.
"I'm sorry it has to come to this."
He raised the gun to her head. Closing her eyes she waited for the click, certain that this was her doom. Then suddenly the pressure was released. Her eyes flicked open.
Slowly Ian took a step so that he was in the middle of them.
His eyes flickered uncertainly from either of them, his body tense with anticipation.
Then his finger caressed the trigger.
Throughout the night, a shot sounded.
Nobody can escape the dance of destiny forever.
Hey this is my first fanfic. So um, be gentle. Would like you to criteque it though.
