The Window
Rain splattered against the large window. Occasionally a flash of lightning would streak across the sky illuminating the living room for a few seconds. She folded her arms in front of her, wishing it was her husband's arms wrapped around her, holding her close. It was nearing 9 p.m. and she was starting to worry a bit. A few minutes later she heard the door open.
Stepping into the kitchen, Andy tossed his keys on the table and removed his jacket. Sharon smiled at the sound of her husband of two years. "Hey, what are you doing?" he asked smiling at her as he toed off his shoes and walked to her.
"Thinking and wishing you were home," she said.
Andy wrapped his arms around her from behind and nuzzled her long auburn hair. "I'm right here," he said. "You know how this city gets when it rains. All the idiots come out. Penny for your thoughts."
"I was just thinking about how nice it would be wrapped up in your arms and your warmth behind me," she said rubbing her hands on his arms.
"Well I aim to please ma'am," he said kissing her temple. "So, you're just staring out at the rain?"
Pulling his arms tighter and resting her hands on his she leaned back against his broad chest. "I was just thinking back to last weekend when all the kids were here and they were running in the yard and playing in the pool. We stood in this same position watching them talk and tease each other. They even managed to keep the younger kids entertained. I still can't believe that in just over four years we dated, fell in love, got married and now have this great combined family."
"I know what you mean," he said softly. "I never thought I would meet another woman and fall madly in love. But here I am, so very grateful and happy to have you in my life sweetheart."
Sharon turned in his arms and finally kissed him hello. "So how was your meeting?" she asked.
"It was okay," he said. "You don't mind me going every week do you?"
"No Andy, I would never ask you to stop going to your meetings. I know they are important to you and they are to me as well."
"Thank you, but I really don't want to talk about my weekly meeting when I have a beautiful woman in my arms, soft lighting in the background and rain gently hitting the window. Makes for perfect cuddling," Andy said smiling at his wife. He leaned down and captured her lips then took her hand and led her to the couch.
Sitting down, Sharon curled up against his side as Andy put his arm around her pulling her closer. Laying her head on his shoulder she sighed contentedly as they watched the rain, each lost in their own thoughts. An hour later, Andy woke to find Sharon still dozing. Gently shaking her awake he said, "Let's go to bed honey."
She stretched and rose. "I love that big window Andy. Let's never close the drapes, so we can look out and remember all the past good times and dream about the future ones."
"I like that," he said, moving to stand next to her. "I love you Sharon."
"I love you Andy," she replied leaning up to kiss him as they stood in front of the large window. Grabbing his hand they headed off to bed. Come morning, the sun would be shining in starting a brand new day.
