She was perfect, laying in the snow still and pallid as death so that she blended in with the surrounding drifts as the frozen particles came floating down from the dark clouds above. I almost would have missed her, if not for the slight squeaking noise coming from the multiple Eevees that were curled up behind her. Now that I knew she was there, though, I crouched across the path with my camera and began to snap shots. Several rolls of film passed before I was satisfied, but I knew that the one or two good shots I'd get out of this would be worth it.

This was the first time I'd seen a wild Glaceon, and of course it would be the last time as well. True that Eevees were common in the wild, but their evolutions were rare enough, let alone one with babies. Yet, at the same time I was not surprised, I was way isolated from the general population, and with a storm brewing in the skies I knew that the Glaceon felt safe enough here to keep her little ones here with her.

I sat and watched for a while, knowing that it wouldn't be safe to move when the winds were blowing like they were. And really, the Glaceon was watching me back, calculating if I was a threat or not. I doubted she'd seen humans before, or if she had they'd passed her by without really noticing, as I almost had. It was obvious after some time that she didn't view me as a threat at all, though, so I was content to just sit and watch her, observe her behavior.

Some time during all of that, I must have fallen asleep, for when I woke I felt warmth snuggled up next to me and looked over, only to find that the Glaceon was curled up next to me, her children all around me. I shifted slightly, which caught her attention and her eyes stared at me as I froze, not wanting to disturb her. Instead, however, she seemed uninterested in me and more interested in her children, and I watched as she fussed over them endlessly, making noises at them that I assumed were just like how my mother used to scold me when I was younger as a few played about in the snow while the others sat tight.

I wish I could have stayed in that paradise, but eventually I had to leave. It was with a heavy heart that I left that Glaceon behind, but the photos that I have, the ones that the company wouldn't accept as publishable, are still hanging on the wall of my home and I know I will never forget the events of that day.

A/N - Written for a contest on deviantART for a Pokemon group. I think the theme was something about portraying wild Pokemon in a winter habitat, so my first thought was a photographer going out to look for some nice wild Pokemon snapshots. I didn't win, but then again I didn't expect to so whatever, I'm just glad it was finished on time and I managed to get it in at all.
