Bam!

One.

"The uridimmu is down! I repeat the-kchh..."

I pulled away from the behemoth in time to see Taylor, I think that's his name, get knocked off his chocobo and hurled across the field by another behemoth.I winced as he landed and sent a final blow to the behemoth I'd been fighting and turned to the other one. I shouted at the mongrel and sent a wave of Firaga flashing towards it. The beast roared and pulled the blade from its head. Charging towards me, it sent the blade crashing down beside me, sparks flying.

Another soldier ran by me and distracted the behemoth. I shouted my thanks to him as I sped towards where Taylor had landed. He hadnt fallen from very high up, so it was probable he was still alive. He was lying with his leg twisted out to the side, painfully torn open and bleeding. He was out cold as I scooped him up and jogged towards my chocobo, who had slowly made her way near me. I set him down on her back and opened the saddle pack. I propped a water bottle up next to him and held my hands over his leg. Concentrating, I muttered to myself and flexed my fingers. A light green light temporarily enclosed his leg, and his wounds were mended.

He moaned as I caught my breath, exhausted by the use of my magic. I pushed myself up and held the bottle to his lips. He swallowed a mouthful before pushing it away.

"Thank you, Officer Farron."

I nodded and moved out of the way as he swung himself to his feet and reached to his gun holster. Unfortunately, he must have dropped it when he fell, for his hand closed around nothing.

"Crap." He muttered.

Taylor went off to search for his weapon, shamefully borrowing a spare I had. I headed over to where the last of the monsters were being fought and took a glance around the perimeter. A dark brown blur was circling us from far above, so I leaped onto my chocobo and tilted my head back to try and see it better. It was starting to close in, circling me in particular, as I was somewhat separated from everyone else. I drew my gunblade cautiously and waited for it to strike. It finally began to seem to slow down, and when I looked through my binoculars it was sinking into a steep dive.

I shot at it as it darted down, my attempts in vain. It crashed into me and caused me to fall off the chocobo, landing hard with it on top of me. It's teeth were sunk into my shoulder, scraping against the bone. I screamed and looked up at it. It was a wolf-like creature the size of a horse with large wings folded tightly against its sides. It growled in my face, saliva dripping onto my cheek. I scribbled around in my pocket for my knife. My hand wrapped around it, flicking it out and into the beast 's eye. The thing fell limp against me, and I struggled to free myself.

I limped back to the others and nodded to them. They silently mounted their chocobo and we took off, my shoulder going numb.
