title: the line
words: 303
The phone rings three times before it goes to voicemail—Hey, this is Finn—
She screams out of frustration and throws it at the wall, right where she painted over his name, when it was encased in her heart and everywhere else. Now, it's gone. She covered it up and now he's gone.
It's like he exploded. He's gone, but he's everywhere—he stepped through that door, once; he stared into her eyes, once; he talked to Kurt, he talked to everyone she talks to…
She drops to the floor, her legs splaying in front of her, sobbing. She wonders how he could have been so careless, and then she scolds herself for thinking that—his life, not his death…
He lit up every room he ever walked into. He had this look in his eyes every time he told her that he loved her. He was the greatest person in that glee club—the kindest, the one who'd do anything for anyone. The way her hands fit perfectly in his, the way laced together, and then they were unstoppable.
Rachel picks up her phone and brushes it off. She ignores the slightly cracked screen and dials the number again. It's speed dial number two, but if she keeps dialing it maybe she won't forget it.
Hey, this is Finn, leave a message.
"I love you, Finn. I love you more than I ever thought possible. I love you and I miss you. It's so hard, waking up every day without you, but someday, we'll be together again, and then we can spend eternity together, just like we were always meant to. That day you asked me to marry you I just… I loved you so much; I still do, and I will for the rest of eternity—"
The line goes dead.
