Who are you really?

You say you are someone who helps.

Someone who can be relied upon.

You say you're just passing through.

But soon I find you here to stay.

You say you can help me protect the earth.

Even though it shouldn't have to be protected.

You say that even though you'll always help us in our time of need.

You can't wait to return to the stars.

You say that human kind is like a disease.

I let your remarks pass. I know nothing of what it's like to be trapped with strangers.

You say I shouldn't try to kill.

But how can I not, when my home is threatened?

You tell me I'm a murderer.

I also say the same to you.

You say you have to face your fear.

But you could have lived for so long, and you let it all go.

You were my friend.

And you threw it all away.

You say you have to leave now. You have your freedom back.

I understand your need to run.

You say you'll always answer my call.

But you complain bitterly every time you walk upon the earth.

You say you're a man of the stars again.

And you have no time for petty human quarrels.

You say that you forgot Sarah Jane.

You compare it to how I forgot you.

I know it's unfair.

But I remain silent.

You say that you see the turn of the universe, everything that was, is and ever could be.

You say you can see yourself scattered across history.

And you say that meeting yourself is never easy.

You say you've never been able to look yourself in the eye.

I finally understand what you mean.

You say you're the professor now.

You've lost none of your fire, if anything you've become even more powerful.

I watch in awe as you vanquish the monsters around us.

Or release them because you thought your enemy was bluffing.

Or get your friend to blow them up.

And now I wonder, when I first met you, when you were trapped on earth you wouldn't have dreamed of killing as you do now.

What has happened to you?

I never ask though, knowing I would get a remark of jest as a reply.

But I ask Ace.

She says she doesn't know what I mean.

Yet another companion who knows nothing of you.

But I've seen you through your many faces, through your many companions and through your many wardrobes.

Although the face will change the man will always remain the same.

A frightened, powerful god who has the universe at his fingertips.
