Rebirth

Chapter 1- Beginnings

Date: October 24th, 2009

The Wind was blowing in my face as I fell from the building. I could feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins and everything slowed down as I plummeted down. I was born for this moment. I was trained for this time. My short life flashed through my eyes and I knew what was coming. My ancestors were proud of me, I was sure of it.

At the young age of 16 I was performing the most sacred initiation of our Order. I had spent the last 2 years being a field operative and I worked hard to go up the ranks. I had assassinated and infiltrated the enemy with more vigor than the others and now I had been given the honorable title of Master Assassin. Our camps director had sent me to Italy, where I was to be initiated by the famous William M. A highly esteemed Master Assassin rumored to be the next to be appointed Mentor, especially after the previous Mentor had been assassinated by a Templar posing to be an Assassin, which then forced many of our bases to go underground, except for one in Italy.

The initiation was truly spectacular. The room was rectangular in shape with a long red carpet leading to some stairs. There were red banners on the wall with our prestigious symbol on it. I was standing at the start of the carpet and there were Assassins in two long lines on both sides. The signal was given to me and I began to walk. I was nervous, my palms were sticky and my throat was dry. I wasn't nervous because of fear, but it was more of a nervous anticipation to become what I live to be. I could feel the others glaring, maybe because of my young age, and some others were whispering, I didn't pay them any attention though. I could hear William say the word of our Creed and what our job is as I made my way to the top. When I arrived with William, my stomach dropped.

"Do you vow to fight for the freedom of man? Are you willing to risk your life for our cause?" As William spoke, my mouth dried up. I stood there for a second, but it felt like eternity. I finally opened my mouth.

"Yes, I will do whatever it takes to win this war". William smiled and he told me to follow him. He took me to an exit that led to the roof. I knew what I had to do. He showed me the perch and he told me to seal my vow.

I was still falling, what felt like eternity, was actually less than ten seconds. I had flipped mid-air and what I had never done before felt natural. I had taken a Leap of Faith. I landed in a bale of hay and I felt the enthusiasm that life was going to be great. But, I was wrong.

My name is Falco Cortez and this is my story.
