A/N- Sherlock's point of view after "The Fall"

Spoilers- Season 2 Finale

He couldn't move, the drug he had had Molly Hooper give him to stop his pulse making him unable to do anything. All he could do was stare and store information as his best friend broke down. He looked like he was in shock. No tears yet, just the inevitable shut down of his body. The denial in his eyes, even though he had witnessed it all himself. Sherlock was sorry, he truly was. But it had been the only way to save John, Mrs. Hudson, Lestrade.

Watching John from the shadows was an indulgence he shouldn't allow himself. If anyone saw him, including John, it was all over. He'd be back in the public eye, Moriarty's men would see, and then who knows how many good people would die for the sake of "the game". That was something John had taught him, how to care for people.

And now he was watching John break down, though only a person of his cleverness would be able to tell from this far away. It was in the pauses in his movements, the bend of his head. Even when he seemed to have collected himself, when "military John" seemed to have taken over, the grieving doctor was still there, just underneath the surface.

Sherlock was also disheartened to see the slight limp creeping back into his step. Not enough to affect his gait, but the consulting detective deduced that it would continue to grow worse.

I'm sorry, John. I wish I could tell you. But you have to move on; have to become "ordinary". It's the only way to save your life. I'll return to you, someday. I only hope the punch you'll surely have waiting for me won't hurt as much as the fall that earned it. I'll be watching and waiting.

Then Sherlock turned up his collar, and walked away.
